Caitlin had her 5th grade talent show/graduation tonight and she wanted to sing in the talent show.  I had my reservations about how it would go because this is the same kid that 4 years ago wouldn't even get up in front of church with a group without crying and having to leave the stage.  She didn't even have to have a part, just standing up there was enough for her.

She made me cry, I saw people that I didn't even know with tears in their eyes.  Please excuse the quality, I couldn't find my video camera (we just moved), this was shot with my camera phone.  Note the boots though, she said they make her brave!

Livestock Judge, cattle exhibitor, future American Idol contestant, quilting, fashion review, etc, etc... that young kid is impressive!

Speaking of the livestock judging, she made her first trip to the big contest Saturday, the state contest at Purdue.  Needless to say she was the smallest one there in size and age.  The good thing is the first time jitters are out of the way.  VERY tough competition.

Loved it!  I particularly like the part about the boots making her brave!  Sounds like you have a pistol on your hands!

Tell her from the Iowegian that I think she did an great job and she's got a lot of courage!!  That's one of my favorite songs from a really good Toby Keith movie, too!!  I know how hard it was for my daughters to sing to an audience for the first time --especially your own classmates!!  Keep encouraging her and you'll be sure to have tears in your eyes many, many more times.  These kinds of things are absolutely the best life has to offer!!  My daughters even let the old man sing with them once in a while and its really harder than singing alone.  For some reason I seem to get a little more emotional singing with them than I do when I'm doing solo work.  Go Figure!!    She did a great job and you should be very proud of her!!

By the way, my oldest daughter started a whole "Pink Cowboy boots" trend here when she was younger and even, though Dad thought it was probably not what she should wear in the show ring, she proved me wrong, did very well, and now we have all kinds of little girls showing calves in their pink boots.  Go Cowgirls!!
