With all of the publicity surrounding the genetic defects in the Angus breed, how has that impacted the value of known (tested) carriers?  I'm sure this varies from sale to sale and animal to animal, but I would be interested in anyone's first hand experience or observations from sales you have attended.

In what I have seen the bulls that have tested positive have gone to slaughter.  Or the cows can be sold as a commercial cow with no papers...

But I believe most are going to the sale barn.

That is a big discussion within the breed regarding ethics of selling unregistered carriers and seedstock producers telling prospective buyers that the chances of having a calf exhibiting the defect are remote.  Uninformed buyers probably think they are getting a great deal buying that BT Crossover or Future Direction son for half the money he cost in spring 2008.  I have avoided everything with 1680 since the news broke on curly calf and water head.

The carrier females I have seen sell have sold surprising well.  LaGrand sold several carriers yearling heifers last spring and I couldn't tell much price difference.  There are several sales coming up where there are carrier show heifer prospects in the catalog.  I personally have enough carriers I am trying to deal with that I don't need anymore at any price.  We've kept the cows so far and will test their offspring.  We cut the bull calves and sold them as steers.

Les Craft had a great heifer at Dale and his sale this fall that was a carrier and she still brought over $7000 not to mention a couple others. He thought she was a $10,000 heifer if she wasn't a carrier.

The people who really help me out with my cattle had 3 calves from BT Crossover this year - 2 steers and a heifer. The non angus guys (clubby breeders) are foaming at the mouth to buy her after she is done being shown
