My show heifer occasionally wants to run beside me and I cant slow her down.  I wack her on the nose with the show stick and try to stand still.  She is perfect when tied up.  It is getting to the point that I cant hold on to the rope any longer.  Any help?

When she starts to run change directions.  Make her have to slow down to regain her balance.  Keep this up until she figures out that a walk is what is expected of her and running will be disciplined by pulling her into a 90 degree turn.  When she gets to walking during each training session let her go in her turn out with feed.  Sooner or later she will decide walking gets you to let her alone with feed.

Always turn her to the right too, by laying the rope over her nose when you make the turn. Good luck
