I'd rec comend washing toady and tomorrow to get the hair looking nice and fresh. I'd condition him too and put in some sheen or just a little bit of oil today.

Is this a hair show or a slick show? Do you plan on fitting him? I can not help you on a slick show but if it is a fit show this is what we do. I get the impression that you are new to showing, try and find someone with experience (that you trust) to help you out.

Here is a brief description of our show routine:
To start with the calf, is at least roughed out when we get there. finish clipping the day before the show.We would rinse the day before the show and use our normal hair products on them. The day of the show we start early in the morning, we wash them with soap real well, making sure to get all the dirt out and hair products out of them. Blow them out and until they are dry. We put them back in there stall with clean bedding, and feed them. Prior to the show you get them up blow them out and then fit them (depending on how long it takes you this could be an hour or 2 hours before your class). If it is blow and go, get them up about 45 minutes before your class blow them out spray what ever hair products you are allowed, make sure you offer them water before you go to the ring.
If you do not know how to fit ask someone for help and try and watch what others are doing so you can learn.
After the show you wash again to get all the junk out of the hair you just put in.
I should add the reason you do not put any hair products on them prior to fitting is the adhesives will not work if there is oil based products on the animal

If its a hair show, I would imagine you will clip his legs after you bone them out. I wouldn't clip them before you bone them out. OR is it a blow and go show? If you use a roto brush on the leg hair it will eventually make it easier to work with. The roto brush softens and breaks the hair faster on the legs. YOu can trim the hair shorter around the hock area. but you will want to save most of the hair on the leg to pull up.
