I had a calf born today and she has so much flex in her rear Pasterns that her dew claw lays on the ground will she strengthen up or not? Btw she weighed 100 lbs at birth and was a week premature

She will probably grow out of it. It may take a little while though and it may never b completely ok. But just give her some time. If it hasn't improved at all in a week Or if its Really hindering her mobility you may want to contact your vet and at least talk it over with them.

She's out of an angus cow and the bull pedigree is unknown he was a super cheap rental from my dads friend but the calf is starting to get better. and the only way to rlly describe it is like a cow that needs its hooves trimmed rlly bad that what it looks like

How many cases of "club foot" has there been that is directly linked to JPJ?

So JPJ has something like 2400 reported calves and  i haven't seen or heard of any of  these cases here in Texas. I would still think that there is less than a 2% chance of this happening estimating 50 cases. I understand the need for people know if something is wrong so its kinda getting old waiting to hear from the head honchos in the association confirming or denying the situation.

Well either way the damage has been done. The bulls reputation has been damaged, even when your talking about Jazzman in the end you are talking about the JPJ influence.
I really don't understand how one of the most exciting shorthorns bulls in decades cant get a fair shake from an association that allegedly wants to make itself relevant to the commercial industry.

justin - please see the post "Potential genetic defect in shorthorn cattle"

http://www.steerplanet.com/bb/index.php?topic=35313.0

there are several pictures - from your description your calf sound like she might have "digital subluxation" (that is what it is called not club foot)

if that is the case (you believe this is what she has) send samples and pedigree and pictures to Dr b - if you need info on how to do this PM or email me - we need more samples to identify the mutation

every single one of them has been to him or a son-- except one

(Last i have heard)

PS> more than likely, I'm guessing this calf is just long and weak pasterned-- as so many are born this way and most don't even pick up on it, or think twice about it.  About 3 days, and she'll be fine.
