Red Angus

Trying to find if there are any red angus left in the country.  Wildcat creek selling out, having a hard time finding a bull to use, have been using several angus bulls and working on a breeding up deal. 
Can anyone shed some light on the reds?

Is there any sexed hfr semen available out of detour? I'm a big fan of his cattle!

No sexed semen offered on detour, my word of advice is to use forum who is detours brother. There is currently no sexed semen on forum either but imo he is under used because he isn't promoted the same way. Personal preference If you were looking into those bloodlines, look into forum

Raise a few bulls, try

Raise a few bulls, trying to add a some heifers, we are in a part of the country where we can have 6 inches of rain in a year and then 2 feet the next.  Have a few reds, used a red bull from genex, viceroy,  double bred 036, have 15 daughters,  and am real happy with them. Milk, get bred in spite of hard conditions.  Have a stallion daughter, good cow, never found a bull to use on her that improved anything,except for a basic instinct, she has a settler in her now.  Used gangster,  calves have a good shape, big enough.  Heifer is really good.  Have super visions full sister,  kind of the same deal, she does a good job just never found a bull that worked.  Used hi flyer in her, used connealy bulls in several, will know if it worked in fall.
We can't sell bulls that are frail, and that don't have some stout, and have no place for an idiot.
 

Ok, I think I'm following you. Your tired of the straight numbers frail bone no muscle ugly cattle in the red breed? Me too. I really like Tim and Julie Shicks program, berry cherry, Loosli right kind 147, and TJS cowboy way Y423 would all be ones to try. I have some et babies that are out of berry cherries mother and Roy Rogers and they are phenomenal. Love Canadian blood but have never had the marbling straight bred.

If Wildcat selling out leads you to think there isn't any Red Angus left in the "country" then you'll be surprised. They were a flash in the pan outfit that never really contributed to the breed in any significant way. This type of operation, in and out in 6-8 years, is rare in the reds but quite common in the blacks (Angus).

I would suggest you look into Mak'n Hay or his son Mak'n Waves. I have a Mak'n Waves son that is just a package of walking steaks (picture attached). I also have two full sib bulls and two full sib heifers (all flush mates) to Mak'n Waves that were born last fall. I am mainly running Mulberry & Huckleberry influenced daughters and find they match up very well to produce easy fleshing offspring.

I have also found Corner Creek Cash to sire desirable calves as well.

The last time I looked the Red Angus breed ranks # 4 or 5 for registrations nationally. I don't think that WCCR selling out will significantly affect the breed. Bulls like Crimson Tide, Extra 111X, Logistics, Cash 2R, Mullberry 26P (or a son), Real Deal, etc. will sire power and phenotype that will work in most programs. RW

ABS has a red angus bull "Pinnacle," bred by Kniebel Cattle. They raise their cattle in the flint hills, on pasture and stalks all winter, no grain, no silage, may check them out. we bred to New Direction (from Genex) last year and again this year. He has an ME of -8, we are hoping he will increase our feed efficiency with his heifers.

First thing: Maybe I missed it, but i didnt see semen price listed for any bulls. Did I miss it or is there a way to get one?
Second Thing: Bravo for that catalog. I have long been a fan of red angus cattle. they're maternal, easy fleshing, just banker-friendly cattle to me. I have told my dad the past few years that I was getting into the red angus in a few years when Im finished with graduate school and have the money to buy a few extra recips. To me, not only are they easy doing animals, but to me they are uncharted territory for the beef industry because people have spent so much time screwing up other breeds ( their siblings from another mother ( black angus)) that the red angus are just really good cattle because they havent been hit with the show craze ( All looks, and no maternal abilty)! Just an excellent group of cattle in that book. I cant tell you the last time Ive looked through a bull magazine and came away impressed with just about every page  (clapping) <party> <rock>

Recently returned from the North American Red Angus Junior Event (similar to a junior national, but this isn't sanctioned by the Association). It it was an awesome event put on by Red Angus breeders from across the country that understand the value of junior programs. Lots of nice show females, but I think is even more important that number of good functional females that could still make it out on pasture. That is something that you don't always find a show.

Thank you for the kind words about the cattle, I started knowing nothing about the red angus cattle but after being associated with the BCR and lazy mc group I have gained an amazing appreciation for the quality the breed brings to the table and the sires and donors in that catalog define excellence to me!

Having just done tour of Red Angus herds in Canada the best bull I saw was WPRA Legacy correct in every way. Cowboy Cut still looked good. Another impressive bull was Red Crowfoot 4Aces at Bar-E-L angus good looking bull and some very good calves. Saw some good Cash calves and the Teron Parker calves had plenty of shape to them not sure how big they will be. Looked at lots of herd sires but these were the standouts

I second legacy, last time I saw him in person was when we fit him at agribition but that bull is as phenomenal of a red angus as I've seen in my days
