Good question... I have a Bismarck heifer to breed this fall and haven't decided what I'll use on her yet. I have a growing list of Angus bulls I like, but haven't settled on any yet. Anybody know anything about Coleman Regis?...

I have seen some calves by him and some looked good and others I wasn't too impressed with. I think he is kind of hit or miss or it may depend on the type of cow he was used on that wasn't a good combo. I sent formersteerjock a pm but since there are others that are interested in what works I'll go ahead add my thoughts. I have seen some really nice Pioneer, Brave, Rito 707, First Class out of Schaffs (just about anything by them that doesn't stem back to Bismarck) line-up to Bismarck daughters. Non Schaffs I have seen and would use Consensus 7229, Frontman, Hoover Dam just to name a few and ones I would use on my Bismarck daughters we do have one but she won't be ready to breed until next year. Like Lightening said Connealy Thunder too. Depending on what your goals are and if they are heifers. I have to say I'm really liking Consensus calves this year and I have seen them out of Bismarck daughters. Very nice!! All the bulls listed above are pretty much calving ease with the exception of some of Schaffs. Good luck.  <cowboy> <beer>

Hey, thanks for that input. Consensus 7229 is on my short list along with Upshot, Regis and New Day 424. I don't consider myself an Angus man, so it's hard to stay caught up on the Angus bulls sometimes!

I used Pioneer early on. I was impressed with him on Simmental cows...wouldn't be opposed to having some more of those. Just with the limited number of Angus bulls we've used, I'm impressed with Schaff's bulls and I like the Coneally stuff...haven't used many of them but I'm wanting to! I've tried some Objective lines, largely because the numbers look so good. Best ones so far are 2T22 daughter...full brother to Objective we used before I knew who Objective was! We have a couple of 3J15 daughters in our sale this fall and some Fast Track babies on the way. The only Objectives I've had so far is a set of twins, and they're not very impressive.

Probably looking for something to use on both some Angus AND some Simmental females this fall, both heifers and mature cows, but doesn't all have to be just one bull. I'd like to maybe sample two or three...

I still have some 004, Boyd New Day & Garret's Nationwide in the tank...and I'm not sure what else may be in there.

might try this bull he is really good.   http://www.cattlevisions.com/Angus/firstngoal.php

Does he not have any EPDs or does Cattle Visions just not have em listed?
punch in his AAA number on the Angus web Page for his Epds. He is about a 3.6 for BW but should trend a little lower over time. He is not near as big as his sister either.  Really sound, correct and balanced: with tremendous thickness and style.

Your welcome! I really like what I'm seeing out of Consensus 7229! I think he could work in a bunch of scenarios! Like you I'm impressed with Schaff's breeding program, Connealy and Hoover. Another good one is Sitz Upward. I wouldn't recommend him on heifers though but his progeny do well also. I've seen handfuls of the ones you have mentioned. That's what we usually do is sample a couple that we think will work well. This year we went with Hoover Dam and SAV Brilliance. As for First-N-Goal he should be a calving ease but we personally won't use a new bull by rule. We want to see progeny out of them and see what is working. I like Transformer too but he's too new still and I want to see if his BW comes down any. I know it comes from his dam for the high BW and he is an Upward son and Upward I believe is like 2.2 BW if I remember correctly. Pioneer worked well for us last year and I'm hoping his semen comes down it's at $40 now because I want to repeat the breeding next year.

You have a good selection in the tank! I haven't seen much from Nationwide but that means squat lol. I would like to use Werner War Party too. I have seen him in person and he is bit older now but I think he could work on a couple of cows. He is the biggest baby I have come across. Once I started rubbing on him he wouldn't leave me alone. LOL

Yeah...we had good luck with both 004 and New Day. And they're proven enough that they're not going anywhere! I figure that'll be ok to have even though they're not the "in style" next best thing.

I have to say I admire Upward's performance and EPDs...I can't say I'm really a fan of those cattle. They're just not my type. I've seen one Upshot baby and REALLY liked her, so I'm looking at getting some Upward into the program through a son I like better than I like him. Now, I've only seen ONE Upshot calf so...lol. And I can't say I've seen a ton of Upwards, but enough to know I'd feel kinda silly to expect something different from how I see most of them.

We only had one Nationwide calf, and I liked him quite a bit. He coulda had a little more performance, but his mother didn't help him much there. I actually used him for a little clean up last fall have two or three babies coming soon. I loved Nationwide's pedigree...we have a cost share program in Tennessee to help buy bulls, and the qualifications are based on EPDs. My goal is for every bull calf I raise to qualify for that money, and Nationwide doesn't really help us there. But I did like the calf! Btw he was out of a Simmie cow...

I forgot to mention I also have some Blue Moon in the tank! We've only had one of those, too...a real nice half blood heifer out of one of our best cow families. I love her & hoping she stays with us...she'll be in our open house offering this fall, but we won't sell every one of those, so maybe we'll get to keep her. I'm suspicious about the temperament on those calves...she's settled down as she's gotten a little older, but she had a little fire at weaning time. Maybe it's just an Angus thing! Lol

I'm guessing that you own @ least part of this bull.

Nope, only have four registered Angus females at this point.  Just think he is a pretty good bull.
