I have a heifer who is awesome! Won every division at our fair and is gonna be a great mom. We AI'ed her to I-80 and expect her to have a really good calf. But we are only selling this one calf and I would like to sell her online because the calf will be worth the price it gets but how could i sell only one calf online?? Could i team up with a farm and put my calf in the sale???

You are getting way ahead of yourself. First, you need a live calf. Also, a good or even a great heifer doesn't always produce a great calf; many great show ring heifers have NEVER produced a good calf. If you get real lucky, and your heifer has a good calf, post pictures on the Steer Planet Classified section. You will have a better chance selling a calf here than at someone eleses Sale.

Second, even though God is awesome, what is the harm in having a young person refer to their calf is awesome, even if it isn't??? Geez. And what is the problem with having a young person who is obviously just learning ask questions about how to best market their produce? And what is the harm in having a young person dream a little? What if that calf is bad? So what? Better to have a plan to market it in case it's good rather than have a good calf and no plan to market it.
As to the original question, selling it in someone else's sale depends on who you are near or who you know. You can certainly try to sell it here as it is commission free and you might be able to put more money in your pocket by selling it here even at a lower price than in a sale where you have to pay sales commission and take it somewhere and all that.
My advice is to dream that the calf that you are going to have is the best one that has ever been born. Plan a way to market it if that is the case. But realize that it might not be quite that good and plan a way to market it if that is the case. Also realize that in crossbred show cattle breeding lack of consistency is a fact of the business and a major problem. Even if you have a nice momma and even an outstanding bull, it's likely to be just a common calf. Plan for that as well.
If your cow calves a nice baby and you care for it well and it grows up to be a nice show prospect I am sure that you can find someone either here or near you that doesn't have their panties on so tight that would be happy to help you market your first calf.

if you have connections and can get the calf in an online sale, great! if not, steerplanet classifieds are so easy! and free! post lots of pictures, video's, and information (location, location, location!), and answer pm's in a timely manner.

Every year I have the perfect calf crop until they start arriving. Usually from the first calf that hits the ground. They never quite meet the picture that I have had in my mind for 283 days give or take a day or 2. I guess that's why the promoters can sell me semen so easily every year eventhough I have enough juice in the tank to breed all of my cows several years without buy anything new & I'm not young by a long stretch!!GONEWEST said:
