I am writing a speech for FFA on the issues facing the sheep industry. I do not raise sheep and have never shown them. So I was hoping that someone on here would know more than what I do. Any information would be helpful.

Thanks,
Brady

I love my cattle... but my husband says the sheep pay for them!  We run a lot of dorper sheep here in Central TX.  If I can answer some questions PM me, will share what we know.
Our sheep are the meat type sheep.  They are wonderful animals and easy to maintain. (except a hungry coyote every once in a while)  We are working on raising several for show lambs.
So for those cattle folks that don't want to spend quite as much a show lamb is a good choice!  (Not that I don't love those cattle!!  LOL)

I think a major problem is that its hard to buy American raised lamb in supermarkets.  Go to Sam's club and look in the meat case...ALL the lamb is from New Zeland.  When I questioned the "butcher" at Sam's, he told me that American lamb is inferior.  Bull!  I makes me so mad to not be able to purchase American lamb...I think that's a big obstacle for the American lamb industry.
