I can't find the photos I wanted to post but here is one with Deer Trail Private Eye in the background.
Born Dec. 14, 1983
My Dad picked him out of the pens in Denver in 1985. I think this photo was taken the summer of 1986.

The other one was Cactus Flat Winner 4W also by Deer Trail Goliath and born Feb. 15, 1987.  Now to find their photos...............

the first bull is excitement which came from joebntn, improver 2k son who still makes females exceptable today. The second bull is GR red answer at his time the only two time national champion which we still have semen if anybody wants some  ;D. Third bull is a 3w payoff grandson that was champion at the klamath falls bull sale in oregon in 1990. Fourth bull was probably one of the biggest flops of the shorthorn breed is willow crest elevation.

wow.  elevation's head is bigger than his rear end.

amazing pictures.  brings back memories of everyone wanting chi, with again, ildeno being the most moderate and on the right cows could make some good steers today.  maybe use him on those heatwave females that don't grow.

I love these old pics!  If I get time I'll scan my favorites which would be anything from Denver in 1987.  I think Seven T's Greg and Alexander were grand and reserve champion bulls (and you can't see the people standing behind them!).  If I could go back in time to one Denver show it'd be that one...some freaky cattle back then, but we'll probably say the same about the current display bulls in about 20 years (or less) Greg and Alexander both went on to sure many champions....Greg daughters were nice.  TNT Fastrak, by JITs bull Duke of Dublin, was champion the next year and I recall reading that he was a 9+ frame.

The first Picture is of 3W Payoff. We leased him for 1 or 2 breeding seasons in 1988-89 from Merle Welch. That same year we purchased GR Exclusive a GR Dreamboat X Green Ridge Robin R180 with Harold Hoskins from Merle. Exclusive was the high seller that day I think we paid $11,500 for him. Anyway I remember as a small child looking at both bulls in the pasture and thinking how magnificent they were. What would I think today?

The next bull is Green Ridge Topper he was a Hub's Impact Two X Fairview Robin that we purchased as a 2 year old. Topper was on test in a bull station and out gained all breeds in the test. However, they couldn't get a bid on him as he was the only horned bull of any breed in the sale. Merle Welch called my dad and said he was a breed changer, and that he would sell him for $10,000 if we would take him. My dad laughed and we ended up paying $2,000 as we were really good customers of Merle's at the the time. Topper was then broke as a 2 year old and shown twice. He was and All-American Honoree for that. I remember reading an ad on Topper that we had in the mid-80's it read 64" tall and 2,800 lbs breeding cows. Boy that makes me sick today.

The second pic is of Topper's first son Hercules. He was All-American Senior Bull calf in 1982. We sold half interest in this bull, but continued to use him for many years. In this picture you will find my Cousin Todd who was AJSA President at the time, my other cousin Susan who was National Lassie Queen, my Grandpa Buck, and my two uncles Lyle and Dean. I always laugh when I ask my dad where he is in this picture. He says someone had to stay home and calve cows.

Last is a bull that we have in our tank, but never really used Evergreen Seville. I just wanted to post this pick because it made me laugh. What were people thinking? If i remember correctly Seville sold for $100,000 at auction. Money well spent. ;D

Payoff was linebred dividend with a couple shots of dual (dairylou and R180)...he was also a sire of the year...his daughters were unbeatable at the time...I'm guessing he was in the 8+ frame range since he won at louisville in the late 80's....the other bulls siting champions around that time were Seville and Combo.

I'm always curious what people would consider the bull to have ended the frame score era for shorthorns (pre double stuff)...AF Warrior when he beat Byland Dynamics maybe?

Jody, I couldn't tell you what frame he was I would have been 6 or 7 at the time. Payoff and Exclusive were almost identical by all accounts and both went back to R 180 as dam and grand dam. Payoff was an easy calver and we continued to use him on heifers up until 2004 when we ran out of semen. Our exclusive cows were better as a whole, but he saw more service. Our last Payoff daughter was mated to Double Stuff and had a really nice heifer that dammed an All-American Summer Yearling heifer by Sonny for us in 2002. I know Double Stuff, but she was my cow and he was hot at the time so dad let me.   ;D

Here is a picture of Green Ridge Robin R 180. She was the center of our program and all of our bulls were related to her. GR Topper was a full sib to R180's dam, Payoff was a grandson, and Exclusive was a son. I know that my Grandpa Buck loved her! I still think she looks good even by today's standards.

We were big fans of GR Bonnie Rachel 83. We owned 3 dtrs of her and 1 son . We even bought her dam, Bonnie Ruberta in one of Merls' dispersals but unfortunately couldn't get her bred and she ended up going back to Merl.

Our red answer sons were out of gr robin r487.

We had a R487 dtr. She was B6180 , aka ABC Robin. She was by Bonanza and the biggest cow we ever owned. Still have some eggs in the tank by Deer Trail Awesome out of her.

We had a solid white dtr of R180 by Prime Time. She did a real good job by her. Still have some eggs by CC Cujo and RPS Tribune in the tank.
