Any thoughts on the bulls?  We just purchased Sultan, and have been using Sergeant and Unbelievabull for the past 2 seasons.  We've been very happy with the Sultan and Sergeant females. Pics are of Sultan a few years back on cows (he is now 10 and still on cows.  Unbelievabull (7 years) and Sergeant (10 years) a few days ago just recently pulled from cows.

These look to be as easy fleshing as they come. Do you by any chance have a frame score for them? <beer>

They will be hard if not impossible to replicate once your old Ohlde cows are gone:and all 3 are impressive to me. Sultan looks to have real potential as a hiefer bull (correct me if not) And: hes clean including DS-looks great in the picture let me know on his BWS-thanks O0

You're definitely right, it will be difficult to do but that is the goal!

We have used Sultan on heifers for several seasons and he works very well with BW's in the lower 70's. The bulls are pretty good but the heifers make awesome cows.  However, Sergeant is by far the best calving ease bull we have had.  Bw's are mid to low 60's and the calves just take off and get better every day.  We've been cleaning up everything shorty, clubby, and angus heifers with him and gotten along really well.

I will probably get beat to death for this but what is the genetic defect status on these cattle. I know that I am using 2 grandsons of jpj that have tested clean for every thing that have just a little better look to them than a lot of non jpj related Shorthorns. I guess that I am saying that jpj offspring that are even clean of ds seem to carry that old time look to them. Thanks in advance.

We really like the look of the ohlde shorthorns.  Sultan is TH, PH, and DS free but the other two bulls have potential to be DS carriers.

Way off subject question here , but what is the cow in your profile picture?

She is a OCC machinist x shorty and my favorite cow on the place.  We just bought her in December and so far 2 flushes average 18 eggs/flush.  These are kind we are trying to raise; easy fleshing, cool looking, and very fertile.

The pictures I saw 10-15 years ago showed those cattle plenty stout-and if the results werent pretty fronted and showy enuff-whogives a sh%^^*()T -theyd be real usefull cattle to me-for whatever thats worth O0 O0

Love the pictures thank you!

I think it's Sek Genetics that has Sultan semen. Are you still having him collected?

That is what we are thinking.  We are looking hard for a Canadian shorty or Red Maine outcross to throw back on these sultan and Jazz daughters.  Something with some mass and power without losing the look and fleshing ability of the ohlde cows.

No problem!  SEK has a small supply on hand but we are continuing to collect him and sell semen privately.  Yes he is still being collected and looks great for an old man,.  We are getting a little heifer sexed semen on him too this round to keep back.

There are a couple very good red maines being used now-where youd STILL-get a next generation purebred with a son. JAY BENHAM-Stone Springs Farma Ohio-has had very good performance cattle for years- he has a standing order from a huge commercial herd in Nebraska for almost every bull calf that hits the ground-He has possesion (and ive seen him and private malone) of SULL RED DEMAND-lOW BW and hes the deal -and he owns private Malone-a complete outcross low BW bull that has an order on almost every calf-ive seen em both, and thier calves had jazzes and thus have an idea what is complimentary etc-you really oughta talk to him. 2: Arden Prehiem-one of the very top unheralded Shorthorn breeders there is- In Missouri-had a hand in breeding several National Champions including Cedar Curve Farah, Has a really good proven red maine bull, on decades of maine X Shorthorn bred cows. 3: ohio breeder on here-has a real good LOW BW Red Maine-Bushy Park or Harrahs/ hes sent me pics of the bull-who has alot of rib body mass-and the calves-which were very small at birth-As far as Canadian-they are not Maine-clubby or such oriented due to the registration constraints- Id say right now-in terms of retaining the BWS along with everything else-AND HAVING A BUTT ON THEM-HC Bluebook is a very good red Canadian bull-his owner thinks so too O0 O0
