I've been looking at online sale catalogs and saw a couple of sales that have some vintage Shorthorns semen offered. I know one is the Swing The Gate sale and I can not remember what the other sale was. I know the semen being offered was older genetics than what is selling in the Gate sale. Can anyone help me out?

For the most part people are using some of the older genetics trying to find some outcross genetics that will work on todays genetics. Some of them will & some won't.

my mistake, I found what I was looking for. It wasn't semen, it was a couple of calves by Clipper King and one by Boa Kae Royal Oak. That's what happens when you look at too many catalogs and forget to click save.

Doc    What  happens when you buy some old semen that has not been DNA.  Does the buyer have to send a straw of semen to have it DNA or does the seller have the responsibility to have it DNA?  If the buyer has to have it DNA that could increase the cost of the semen.

about $40 if the association accepts the results.  i've done it for maine's.  don't hassle the seller, just do it yourself.

Okotoks,
Go to montanashorthorns.com  They are in the NILE sale on the 19th.
By the way, we bought a really sweet heifer out of the Regal Legend 4R bull a couple of weeks ago.

It usually falls to the responsibility of the buyer. If it is truly scarce semen , then the cost of having it tested is not near as bad as the fact that you are having to sacrifice a straw of that semen.

I noticed some older semen from the 80's in the Swing the Gate sale- SMF Fifth Avenue, CSF Valentino, Ballyart Vantage, and Huberdale Master Charge.  I'm kinda worried about bringing back Fifth Avenue.  I'm not trying to bash him because I've seen outstanding calves by him, but the BW are probably going to be too high.
