my son and daughter are starting to get some show heifers along with their steers and i was wondering if everyone feeds them the same ration as the show steers until they reach desired condition or if you have different mixes for both.

May not be right....but I feed the same ration to both til we get close to the end. I feed about 12% pretty much all the way through.

The easiest thing to do would be to add some oats, cotton seed hulls or beet pulp (or some combination thereof) to your current ratiion.  We feed the same base ration to everything, just add to it as needed - much of the time your regular ration will be fine as is.

Thanks for your input. Right now I'm using a mix with purina grand T, my corn, and some beet pulp, oats and cottonseed hulls that is 13.4 CP 3.5 fat and 15 fiber that seems to work well for growing the steers. Then I was finishing them with ADM/Moormans Finisher that I thought did a great job of putting some fat on them.
