Spring Matings and opinions on heifer..

Wondered what matings everyone will be trying out this spring..


Here is a heifer I have ..about 2 months old... Her dam is the second one and thrid pictured...we're breeding her to Enhancer this go around.

The first two pictured here is a Made Black x Triple C No Doubt. She is being flushed to JS Sure Bet and then bred back to Hired Man.  Her heifer calf pictured at side in the pair picture is bred to Grizzly.

Is that fancy little heifer going to be fore sale? ;D

She is currently for sale....We have a couple on the ground now and a few more going to be born in the next couple of week. You should come by. Everyone except the Without a Doubt donor is at the farm in Riesel.

Bahahaha.. Thanks  <beer>  The Brown Swiss is actually a Simbrah.. so depending on if you prefer earred cattle to diary she might be doing better than you think.

Hahahah!  Brown Swiss.. that is really funny!  I've had the Simbrahs called many different things, but that's a new one! (clapping)

Hey LinZ, what is the sire of the first heifer pictured?

Our herdsire.. GCF Perfect Momento.. He is a Mo Town x SS Miss Break K-2(Perfection) we purchased from Grindstone Creek. Everything we have had out of him have been black baldies, with loads of hair and sweet front ends. and they come small. We're thinking about having him collected. The white on that heifer came from the dam's side I am pretty sire. She is sired by Built Right, known from throwing white.

We have seen that Built Right can ocassionally throw more white than wanted (we've now had 2 out of approximately 60 born here or at neighbors), so it is pretty uncommon.  However, in this scenario, I think you may be pointing the finger the wrong direction.  Studying the pedigree (which I do like, by the way), you will find that both Momento's sire and dam have plenty of white in their lineage...

Mo Town has Power Drive and Ebony Antoinette; both are known to pass on white.

Your bull's dam is Perfection, who goes back to Black Maximizer...one of the old kings of extra white, and also has Broderick in the top side of the pedigree.

Now throw in another shot of Ebony from the dam of this heifer and the white does not surprise me at all....but I would say that the chance could be just as great that it was passed from the lineage of the sire rather than coming from the maternal grand sire....

My speculation.

I could agree with you and might. But..out of 60+ calves.. with the exception of 3, one being this heifer, all have been black baldies..no extra chrome.. This heifer's MGS is Built Right.. and the other 2 are out of the same cow..a grey and white fleck. The differences in dams...we have red and black simbrahs.. my Hummer x Sheza Lady donor(plenty of white in that family) even had a solid black with a white snip on the nose calf..and she has a full white face..white socks and white underline.. fleck Simmentals.. Chromed up Simmental influenced and purebred Brahmans.. SO it's pretty uncommon with him too. Likely it's  a combination of Built Right and him together that drummed up the extra chrome but I certainly think at least one finger needs to be pointed at Built Right.. color is an interesting thing.  (pop)
