we have 30+ - birth weights from 65 to upper 80s, larger weights out of big crossbred cows  - did not use on heifers but probably could depending on their breeding - lot of bone so be careful with clubby by-products - lots of vigor at birth and quite consistent - 1/2 to 3/4 Simmental calves with a better look than I expected - I have seen the bull, a rather impressive mature bull - lot more hip that most simmy bulls out there with good width of base - if he won't put guts and rib into your cows need to sell the cows and start all over - not a junk calf in the bunch - I think that we will use a lot more of him this year -

Really appreciate the info.  I really like the look of him and his pedigree.  I have a Carnac heifer bred to him that is due in April.  I will post pics when the calf arrives.  Should be an interesting cross.

We have one bull calf so far out of a first calf Sim/Angus heifer.  He was 5 days late on a 283 gestation...so probably right on for simmental, but he weighed 80# and she had him easy.  We are VERY impressed with him....super thick butted and topped...he looks like a bull! Maybe a little straight hind legged but nice shoulders.  We will only be getting two more ... one any day and one in April.  We are going to breed more to him this year and use sexed heifer semen from Select Sires in hopes to get some show heifers.  I am impressed with the amounts of muscle GM has and is still a calving ease sire...also he is in the top end of the EPDs... anxious to see how the calves grow.

frostback - I will probably travel to the sale and if not I know a couple of good cattlemen that will be going - the catalog is pretty impressive I agree - I have been there the last couple of years and the top end is as good as anywhere - the cattle are more 3-dimensional than most places -

Select Sires rep at our expo indicated that they would have much more info about calving ease soon. I believe that he said they were going to get information from 700 bred heifers that were bred to him on a Ranch out west sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I think that the sexed heifer semen is $70. or so - your rep probably has some wiggle room on that price depending upon the quantity -
