Steer getting taller, but not filling out.

I had the same exact problem with an angus heifer last year, I would feed her twenty pounds a day, and I was doing everything I could imagine to make her fill out. When it came to show days, we would feed her a third of winner's fill and give her water thirty minutes before show. But after she hit about a year old, she started filling out, and now she looks wonderful, and you would've never imagined she was the same calf! I definitely like what others were saying, and suggesting, I wish I would've though about this website last year!

we have been experiencing the same thing with our Angus steer. he is a son of Sankeys Lazer our of an Iron Mtn daughter.  several people have suggested to us to push more energy, predominately Corn, was told as much as he would eat for the next month.

A bunch of corn will probably just crest his neck a little more and the rest of him will still look green.  That is just the way most Angus cattle develop in my experience.  They look good when finished, but they often do not bloom until the end.

Yep... Just be patient and give him more time to mature.  30lbs a day??? Bowsers!!!

Might just be his growth pattern.  Seems like Angus are more prone to growing frame and having a lanky look until they hit about 10 months of age then will finally muscle up.
