Yes, he's been shown a good amount and walks well everywhere else. I can't figure it out either.

Use the dog training method -- find something he really likes to eat and get him to follow and give him a reward when he does the right thing.  My kid does it all the time with alfalfa cubes - his heifers and steers will load into the grooming chute or do whatever to get the treat.

I agree with the above poster! I've had this issue with a few of my steers as well and food or alfalfa cubes does the trick. Also a lot of patience....sometimes beating them and twisting their tail will only make them hate the walk to the wash rack even more. Stay calm and be persistent, make it as rewarding as possible for them. Good luck  <cowboy>

Seems like every year we had one that did not like the washrack, handfull of volunteer oat hay always seemed to get them right in. Find something to coerce them with, it will save you and them allot of time and stress. When we had more than one steer we would rinse the one that did not mind the washrack first and move the other in while the other was still there, they seemed to lead better when they were being led to the other animal. once tied we would move the rinsed steer away.

Find something that works for you and the animal is all you can do, we had one we could back in but not lead in, go figure.
