Before i actually start the process of straight piping my vehicle, i was wondering if anyone else thought it may work or sound cool.
It is a 99 bonnevile, yes its a chick car, but thats why it is getting piped.. it has a v6 3800 engine
I intended to knock a hole through the cattilac converter and run pipe straight on back.

Will it sound cool? Low growl? will i have enough back pressure? anyone else done this to a car?

I know a couple of guys who put a straight pipe on their cars that are kind of similar to yours.  To be real honest, they didn't sound BAD, but it's a little different.  I'm also not a real big fan of straight pipes on trucks if that tells ya anything :p  I'd think you would have plenty of back pressure, especially if you didn't try to put a diesel exhaust on it.  How big of a pipe were you thinking?

You will need a big subwoofer to boom the hip hop base and a fart can muffler to make it sound really cool. (just kidding - my emoticons don't work).

Just cut the pipe off behind the catalytic and you will notice a definate sound change and still be environmentally friendlyor else put a FLOWMASTER on it and run with the big boys.

Since you ask for my honest opinion:  I always figured a loud or tall vehicle meant the drive was over compensating for something.....so far I haven't been proved wrong yet.

I would suggest one of the new high performance mufflers. The growl a bit without the "redneck rattle" of a straight pipe. We had a 2001 Bonneville and it was awesome. Ran like a streak of sh*t, handled great, and still hauled the wife and two kids comfortably.

I guess I always thought that putting exhaust, rims, chrome whatever on a common vehicle just seemed like a poor mans way of trying to be cooler.  If u want a sweet ride get a benz or a bentley or a King Ranch F350 or something like that.  Otherwise just drive your vehicle the way it came out of the factory...

I wouldn't do that. Then you might have a problem with not enough back pressure. But that video of that bonneville sounded good. Thats wat I would do.

If you do choose to straight pipe your vehicle speaking from watching a truck before and after this being done, your gas milage will go down, and also a loss of power imho. That being said I sure do love being able to make peoples ears ring going buy, and on the diesels it works quite well.

Show Steaks -- You originally said you wanted to turn your "chick car" into something suitable for a dude.  Straight pipe or other exhaust work may make it sound better, but maybe you just need to bite the bullet and get a truck, even a small truck, and throw a shovel and wire stretchers and maybe a couple of steel posts and a post driver in the back.  Maybe not that fast, but sexy to the right kind of girls.

Oh wow!  I love how they almost wreck the car as they are doing a demo!  Just like my grandfather always tells me...Never underestimate the ingenuity of complete idiots!

I used to drive an old Buick, 60's model that had glasspack mufflers on it.  That is what I heard my dad call them, talk about an awesome sound.  That car was a blast to drive.

My husband has a 2003 Dodge with the Cummins that was straight piped when he bought it.  Everyone knows when he is coming down the road.  The neighbors especially loved it when he would go to work at 5:30 in the morning.  They had better be glad it wasn't me driving it, I rattle windows when I drive it!
