surprise calf of the year?

I know we all get excited about A.I. calves, but has your herd bulls surprised you this year yet?  I am really liking my Boom Box calves.  He's a money man son we got off of Bob and Colleen Majors.  They used his one season and sold some great steers off of him and I have some really neat ones too this year.

Always fun to get a surprise or two out of your herd bull isn't it!

OK, I'll bite but most people think the bull needs to be in a catalog to use, irregardless of pedigree. I have a friction son who has surprised me in his ability to transfer quality with more hair than I ever expected out of Angus cows. I can be as barn blind as the next guy but I'm pretty happy with what we have out of our bull. So....here is my heifer...fire away.

She is a nice calf.  With babies like that I am thinking the herd bull would see more use if he were mine!

Here are some Boom Box calves I shot today. 

Our best calves this year, and perhaps the best we've ever had, are out of our herd bull Big Jake (Trump X CF Equity Fool 88)  Big topped, square hipped, stout, just flat good.  So much so that the AI kit has been put away for the year, except for the Perfect Storm semen we ordered to breed our Trump daughters to.  Wish all of our calves this year were out of Big Jake.  I sold some cows to a gentlemen in Mississippi and one of them was bred to him.  He called me about an hour after his calf was born and asked what Big Jake was.  He then raved about this wonderfull heifer calf out of him and ordered a cane of semen.  He finished by saying that he wished the calf was a week older because he had just synchronized 15 cows to AI and he would have used Big Jake on all of them had he known the calves were so good.  Nice to have your bull work for somebody else, too.

this heifer is out of our herd bull brass monkey that is a maximus x wmw. this is one of the suprises out of him im glad the egg didnt take we put in the cow. ;D
