So who does this any more? Haven't done any for a few years. Good and bad experiences?

I googled it because I have one to do and there were several companies that popped up.

I did a few this spring and sek genetics was pretty fast and reasonably priced. I have done igenity in the past but I heard they were bought out or something to that affect.

I see they can now do it with hair. Anyone use this method and were there concerns compared to blood? I like the idea of shipping envelopes instead of packing tubes especially in this heat. Thanks.

Hair has to be older animals.  Blood cards work at all ages.

Hair worked well for me with animals over 1yr.  Easier to send than tubes of blood...

Ok Mark, it does not say older animals only for hair, so what do you consider older animals? These are weaned calves late Feb. to end of April, would they work with hair? I really don't want to wait for blood cards to be shipped and then shipped back. I know its only a few days longer but I can do the hair on Monday and mail them same day?

I was thinking at Pfizer that they said on the hair samples the calves needed to be 4 months min. That is who I use because of the ASA requiring you use them.

GeneSEEK and Igenity are now both owned by Neogen.

Pfizer's animal division split off and is now known as Zoetis.

I have a old bull we would like to test for th and only have semen on him. Can you send a straw of semen? And if so does it have to be frozen or can you just put it in a evelope and send it?

Do I have any offspring of this bull to test? What's his pedigree?

I have sent a straw in a padded envelope to Pfizer/ Zoetis, along with the test request form.  $35 for TH and PHA combined.  Results took 10 days at the very most.

Yes you can do it with semen. No it dosnt have to be froze, but you have to put it in something to protect the straw, like a empty pen case.  If you just use a envelope the postal rollers break it.
