I guess it is legal in the shorties and the Maines to register th and pha carriers. One arguement was that it is ok cause a shortie th carrier may produce a great th free individual. Has this really ver happened? Has there really ever been a th or pha free "great" individual from a carrier line? Isn't it more of an excuse than reality. I guess I would have liked to see say a 10 year weed out opportunity......let the cow produce till she's to old. But has there ever been a th free "great" one out of heatseeker or who ever?

I kept my TH carrier females and have been using them as recipients.  Before they became recips I did get TH free daughters that are as good or better then their dams.

You hit the nail on the head. Why else would you want to use a TH bull except for the look. Breeding show calves I use TH bulls all the time but all of my cows are TH negative. A TH steer calve will beat the TH negative steers in the show ring 9 out of 10 times. When I breed, if I get a heifer, I have her tested, if she is negative and I like her, I will keep her for breeding stock, if she is positive I sell her as a market heifer. I have never had a cripple and can usually tell out of my calves after a month or two old which ones are TH positive. There are some nice TH negative bulls that look nice but usually don't throw as nice of calves as the TH positive bull from my experience.
