I will be attending the Canyon County Fair, the Western Idaho Fair, and Maybe the Idaho State Fair.
The theme for Canyon is: GROW IT & SHOW IT
The theme For Western is: HOW THE WEST WAS FUN

I will be taking 4 cattle and 12-13 rabbits to Canyon and 3-4 cattle and 17-18 rabbits to Western

I will post results and pics as I get them.

We have gone to several smaller fairs, and had good results so far. Just in the last two weeks we have had Champion Simmental Female (the cow pair we show) and Champion Simmental Bull. Here are a few pics (not the best quality).
The first pic is our pair with my girls. This pair has been undefeated at all the little shows we have gone to, but we will see how she does at Nationals next week. Most of our little fairs have 60 to 100 head at them. Our December bull calf (no picture, sorry) has been undefeated so far as a bull, but not a lot of competition in the bulls in youth shows. I will look forward to our district and state fairs to see how they really stand!
Anyway, enjoy the pics. The second pic is of my oldest with her bull calf, taken by the paper, and put on the front cover of the paper with a big write up of how she has been doing this year so far. In the picture she is holding the ribbons (two grands and two reserves) she won at that county fair. She hates the picture because she is sunburned and all red looking!

I got Champion Shorthorn Steer and 5th overall in the Grand Drive. There were 11 or 12 breeds in the class and I am not sure how many steers all together in the entire fair. I am very proud of how we did considering this was my first year showing cattle. Hard work pays off and I can't wait until I get my new calf!

we just finished up our county fair yesterday and had a great week.  1 class winning mkt hog that went on to be a division champion, 1 mkt goat class winner, 3 feeder calf class winners and 2 divison champs and a res. champ simmental heifer. Not bad for a first year showman at all, he was all smiles ! will try to post pics later.

Just had our county fair and in 4-H show we had Champion breeding heifer with a Star Power x Heat Seeker Foundation Simmi and also Reserve Champion Breeding Heifer with  a Monopoly x Cowboy Cut Heifer.  We also had Champion Steer with a Dirty Hairy Maine steer and Champion Market Heifer with a Wave on Wave heifer.  This was the 4-H show.  THe following day the Monopoly Maintainer heifer was Champion Breeding Heifer in our open class show and the Wave on Wave Market Heifer was the overall Grand Champion.  We are from Richville, MN and show in East Otter Tail County.  My daughters will be taking the breeding heifers for 4-H and one of my daughter will be taking both breeding heifers for FFA at State Fair along with two hogs that were the Grand Champion Market Barrow and Gilt at our county fair.

While I dont think we will have as good a season this year (grand and res champion steer at every show and suprime or res. Female at every show) we have started with a strong year with champion chimaine and two day div. Champion simmi that was a home grown. As well as cow calf champion simmi with the same heifer. We start our shows in two weeks with a one week break and then six weeks of shows every weekend snd one week strait.

My family and I just wrapped up our county fair last week and it was one to remember. I have a brother and sister that show cattle along with myself at Elkhart county fair in goshen, IN. Before our 4h show we have a open show and at that open show my sister snagged Champion Angus heifer with her Jaguar hefier that my dad took a chance on and bought for market price....$750. Best purchase of the year! My sister also won reserve champion Angus steer. My brother took the champion Chi steer with his Carnac calf. I had champion Maine steer with my Sooner steer and was told that I was in the running for reserve grand. Two days later my sister was supreme heifer at the 4h show with nothing even close to touching her!. Next all three of us got champion in the chi Maine and angus division. For a family that is conservative on steer prices, feeds good ol' ADM alliance dairy beef feed supplemented with my dad's super feeding knowledge, and has a cooler that consists of open barn doors two fans and rinsing twice to three times a day we were thrilled beyond belief that we were all three standing in the grand drive!!! By the time grand drive was over we had received reserve grand with my brothers Chi, fourth overall with my Maine and5th overall with my sisters Angus. Needless to say my parents and all of us were estatic. Personally I was extremely proud because at 18 I fit all 6 cattle with only a little advice. Basically our fair was a memory to remember and I can only hope next year being my last year is equally exciting!!! Congrats to all and good luck to all those that have fairs in the future!!

Not to take anything away from you, it's great that you're doing so good without spending bukoo cash, how many steers calves are in your breed divisions? Just curious.

Out of the last 30 days we have been at a show for 20 of them.  Needless to say, the heifers are right at home wherever they happen to be laying down.  We started at Jr Nationals where our % heifer was 10th overall Bred and Owned.  From there we came home and two days later went to one of our county fairs.  Kids did well there!  Grand and Reserve % Simmental, Reserve PB Simmental Female, Daughter won Showmanship and we also picked up the Overall Herdsman Award.  The following week we had our "other" county fair.  Grand and Reserve Simmie, Grand Simmental Heifer, Supreme Female.  This past week we had our district fair.  Daughter had reserve division champion, Son had Sr Division Champion in Jr Show.  Open show - Son was Reserve Sr. Division Champion in the % show and the judge seemed to really like his big bred heifer.  On a side note, watching those two in the ring almost brings a tear to my eye.  She is a BIG girl and he is such a skinny little guy.  I have not seen many people that work so flawlessly together while in the ring.  I am pretty sure that if his heifer ever yard darted him, she would be forgiven before he even hit the ground.  Now we have our State Fair coming up and my wife took our daughter to the Doctor for her asthma.  She wasnt able to show in the open show on Sunday because of it.  She is now house bound and it looks like Dad will be taking care of all outside duties concerning her heifers.  (not that I mind)  Time with the girls is pretty relaxing for me.  She will be determined to show at Sedalia so I anticipate a quick recovery. ;)

There are usually 15to 20 calves in each division. That may not be an out standing amount but for a county fair it's not too bad. Our county is known for their competive livestock shows in Indiana.

My son won his first Grand Championship at the county fair with a pure bred steer.  He also won Reserve Champion Breeding Female.  Our niece won Junior Showmanship.  So overall we had a great fair and we are now getting ready for the State Fair.
