I'm not real happy with the photos, but it is all that was taken. This is from our big District Fair, Ozark Empire Fair. The first photo is our Champion Purebred (Jr show) and Champion Bred and Owned. She is an April heifer by Real McCoy (ABS sire) x our good Built Right cow. The second photo is the Reserve Champion Simmental Bull (both open and Jr shows), he is by SF HR Dominator (http://shoalcreeklandandcattle.com/herdbull.html) and our good Built Right cow, and is a March 1st caf. The last photo is our embryo (and a real bad photo - he looks real throaty but is not in real life) that was Champion Simmental Bull in the Jr show. He is a Built Right by an Avalanch cow, and is a December. Our daughter won Premier Breeder also. We had a great fair!

Not to take anything away from you, it's great that you're doing so good without spending bukoo cash, how many steers calves are in your breed divisions? Just curious.

There are usually 15to 20 calves in each division. That may not be an out standing amount but for a county fair it's not too bad. Our county is known for their competive livestock shows in Indiana.

That's really good then. One thing that irks me is when someone says they won "whatever breed division" when there was only 2 calves in that division. It's a trophy none the less though.

I agree competely. If it was like that it wouldnt be as great, but in a relatively competitive show we were more than thrilled that all our hard work payed off!!

For me and my sister's second year showing cattle, my older sister won Grand Champion Market Steer, and I would have won reserve if my steer was acting better. I ended up with a second blue. It seems like he's so low key all the time, and then when he gets in the show ring, hes different. it was also because in my first class, there was the most wild steer that got away 3 times, then i went back in for reserve, and one steer ran loose while another steer mounted mine, then 3 were running loose. the judge said to just tie them all up to the fence, then he would decide.. it was a wild class....

Fun thread!

We had our county fair this past week; took 10 head; 6 calendar year calves, 4 last year breeding heifers and 6 lambs.

from 17 class winners, judge pulled out 5 finalists for Grand Champion Breeding heifer; 3 of those 5 were ours.  One was a pb Simmi, one a % Simmi and the one he chose for the Champion was an appendix shorthorn that was a fall born heifer only 6 weeks off of calving to Who Made Who.

in the calendar year calves, we had Grand Champion Breeding calf with a 3/4 Simmi bull calf; he is sired by Cut Above and he truly is probably one of the best we have ever had.
We had Champion and Reserve feeder calves; the champion was sired by Red Zone and the reserve was sired by Bojo.

Next day was sheep day; we had champion Market Lamb with an awesome ewe lamb we bought from Todd and MK Franz from Minnesota; judge described her as "if you could paint a picture of a market lamb, this would be it"....kids did well in showmanship;

lots of hard work this summer but fun now!
kids don't play ball, we do 4-Hand that is our sport!

Well Canyon county finished on the 31. I didn't take any cattle to that one but I did take 11 rabbits and we did awesome

The week started out great. We weighed in on Wednesday that week and my rabbits all checked in with perfect health, the vet said they were some of the best she had seen.

Thursday was showmanship. I was the only one in my advanced senior class so I took Top Advanced Senior, then We did the Senior Runoff (top 2 intermediates, top 2 seniors, top 1 adv. seniors) and I took Top Senior Showman, Then we did the Overall Showman class (top 2 novice runoff showman, top 2 senior runoff showman, top FFA showman) I took the Top Overall Showman, I used my Broken Black New Zealand Doe Ella (first pic)

Friday I had to deal with a White doe with diarhea, because someone stuck something white and powdery in her feed. Yay took from 8 in the morning till almost 1 to get her cleaned up then had to do more cleanings throughout the day, this was stressing as we had a show the next day, she is white, and she is a mini rex (rex fur curls when wet), So we had fun but she came out fine the next day, luckily. I really hate when people do stuff like that esp. since my rabbits are on a strict show diet.

Saturday brought the Quality show, I was the runner for my superintendent until it was time for my first group Mini Rex to go up, bucks went first, only gonna do the top placings, My Black Mini Rex Buck took 1st so he stayed on the table to compete against the top doe. My white doe took 3rd or 4th cant remember, then my broken black otter took 1st doe, The broken black otter doe took Best oppisite sex of breed and my black buck took best of breed. Then my New Zealand doe went up she was the only one so she took Best of Breed, then My Rex doe Took Best of Breed out of 3.  Then we did the crossbred class but my crossbred buck took 5th, the first red in the class, we were close but he needed more fullness to his Hindquarter. Then Came the Best in Show class. My mini rex buck placed in the top four which is really good cause each breed had a BOB and we had both tables filled with rabbits. Then came the Fur Classes. My Black Rex Buck took top colored rex fur, My white doe took top white rex fur, and my broken New Zealand took top commercial fur, there was a normal fur class and a wool class but he oly asked my 3 back for the overall, The New Zealand Doe took Best Fur, The Mini Rex Buck took Reserve Fur, and the Mini Rex doe took 3rd overall fur.

Throughout this process I had 4 other girls helping me to get all the rabbits to the table and standing with them through the class then taking them back and getting the next batch. it was fun but fast we started at 8 and ended by 12, but the judge was awesome. I could not have done it with out all the help of those girls. A big thank you to them

Sunday brought Round Robin. I did ok. I did best in Poultry ranking 3, then Dog ranking 4, then Cavy (guinea pig) ranking 5, then Rabbit ranking 8, then Pygmy Goat ranking 11, then Cat ranking 11, there is so much knowledge to learn and alot to learn about showing them. I ended up placing 9 overall. This was my first time in round robin. :) 9th out of geez probably over 100 kids, pretty awesome :)
Then we did the awards ceremony where I got my blue directors chair.
Then last but not least was check out, we got rained on, yeah that was fun, the rabbits were almost all in open wire carriers :)
In almost everyones oppinion my area was the nicest decorated with everything needed for Herdsmanship and my area was always cleaned before judging but not once did I win herdsmanship :(  oh well I will try again at Western which starts the 18 and goes till the 28, this includes 4H, Junior open, and open. :) I'm taking maybe 21 rabbits and maybe 4 cattle.
I will have to find more pics of my winners later :)

done with WI state fair. i took down my mainetainers. all three won their classes. my baby march calf was champion calf and champion bred and owned calf. she was then reserve champion bred and owned mainetainer heifer. i got to go into supreme drive which was huge for me especially since shes a calf that bred and own as well as the cow was my first registered heifer so i am very pleased. i just wish she was deeper. i was also reserve champion 15 yr old showperson out of 30 people.

We had a GREAT state fair! Our embryo bull won Champion Simmental Bull (http://www.mostatefair.com/photos/browse/category/beef-cattle-simmental-breed-show-4h/240#content), Champion Pair (http://www.mostatefair.com/photos/browse/category/beef-cattle-simmental-breed-show-4h/240#content), Reserve Champion Simmental bull and Champion Bred and Owned bull (http://www.mostatefair.com/photos/browse/category/beef-cattle-simmental-breed-show-4h/240#content), and her heifer that won the Champion Bred and Owned and Champion Purebred Simmental at the district fair won reserve in her division (http://www.mostatefair.com/photos/browse/category/beef-cattle-simmental-breed-show-4h/240#content). If the links all have the same pictures, she has the last 4 of the last 5 pictures posted. She had several people interested in her bull calves, which are for sale. We took a total of 6 head, and 4 of the six were in the top. The two that were not were bought heifers, go figure! Three of the four in the top were bred by us, or an embryo we put in and raised. We are very proud... ending our year on a great high!
We are pretty much done showing here, just two little "blow and go" shows in the first part of September. Feels good, been a busy show season for us!
Take care, and good luck to all who still have big fairs! God truly blessed us this year and our herd!

I am a very proud dad.  My son and daughter worked very hard all last week at our fair.  I had more people than I can count (a lot of complete strangers) come and complement me on how hard my son worked and how polite he treated every one.  He kept his calves clean and his stall and alley way swept all week.  It was funny watching a 9 year old going up and down the alley picking up the trash while the older kids just set and watched him.  The bonus was he had champion Angus and Shorthorn heifers.  Then my daughter who is 5 showed in the clover bud division and did a great job.

Congratulations Everyone! It looks like we have some pretty powerful animals belonging to some folks on here!  <party>

I just got back from our County Fair! We had a GREAT week! One of my Simmental Heifers got Grand Champion and Supreme Champion Female, and another one of mine got Reserve Junior Champion Female! My Grand Champ was a great partner, and She helped me to win Senior Showmanship! Our FFA Chapter was also very strong with Hogs, Lambs and Steers as well! But most importantly, everyone had a fun time and there were plenty of smiles!  <rock>

Our State Fair is in early October, and we hope for the same success!

One hell of a day at my County Fair in Southeast Nebraska. The morning started early. Feeders started off. Champion Angus Feeder Female. Champion Overall Feeder Female. Champion Crossbred Feeder Steer. Champion Overall Feeder Steer. Then came what i thought was my strong point. My Breeding Heifers, I had Champion Angus Breeding Heifer with a Senior Yearling out of EMBLAZON. I had Champion Simmental Breeding heifer with a Senior yearling out off PATHFINDER. I went into final drive for Breeding Heifer holding the halter of the Simmental, while my friend was holding the halter of the Angus. I took the Simmental because I thought she was better than the Angus. I got beat by a Mainetainer, she was one hell of a heifer. My Angus stood second to the Mainetainer. Reserve Supreme Breeding Heifer is very respectable in the county. I was very happy with my day so far... Then came Steers. I had champion Simmental Steer and Champion Angus steer. the Simm was out of a meyer 734 son. He had a ton of hair on him. Final Drive came for steers. I didnt win Champion or reserve steer. but I had some pretty darn good competition... Overall i had a very successful day in my opinion. I finished with 9 Trophies. The hardware was pretty heavy!!! hahaha ;D

My county fair was the last week in July.  I had the oportunity to take two heifers and my brother took his pig.  This year was my senior year of showing at county and both heifers did good.  ONe heifer was Grand Champion Crossbred (pictured) and the other was 3rd in her class.  My brother got Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog with his blue butt gilt (pictured).  Both the heifer and the pig are going out to our State fair the second weekend in September.
