Just received notice that Michigans' governor has proclaimed  March 20 as Michigan Meat Out day.  Here are a couple of phone numbers to call and complain.
517.335.7858 or 517373.3400. Please take a few minutes to call and help support our state's second leading industry. Thank you.

Michigan Meatout Day
Whereas, A wholesome diet of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains promotes good health and reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic diseases, which take the lives of approximately 1.3 million Americans each year; and,

Whereas, The number of those who choose to live the lifestyle of a vegan or vegetarian has increased and so has the availability and selection of meat and dairy alternatives in mainstream grocery stores, restaurants, and catering operations; and,

Whereas, Reducing the consumption of meat or not eating meat at all can significantly decrease the exposure to infectious pathogens such as salmonella, E. coli, and campylobacter, which take the lives of several thousand Americans and sicken millions more each year; and,

Whereas, The benefits of a plant-based diet can consist of increased energy levels, lower food budget costs, and simplified food preparation and cleanup; and,

Whereas, It is encouraged that the residents of this state get into the habit of healthy living by consuming a diet that is rich with vegetables, fruit, and whole grains, and by staying active;

Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 20, 2010, Michigan Meatout Day in Michigan. In observance of this day, I encourage the residents of this state to choose not to eat meat.  Eating a healthy diet can be fun. Explore the different recipes that can be created by using fresh ingredients and by having a sense of adventure

this idea by this governor is just ridiculous.  there will be only about 10 people do what she is suggesting...all are on her staff....it is government officials that have no clue what is really happening in this country.  in the past year wall street has put $80,000 on each and every man woman and childs back in this country in nothing more than a pure theft and this is what this moron governor comes up with.

Sorry Jen... I think about the twenty plus years I lived  less then 10 miles from Michigan's capital and among the   automotive/ overpaid UNION workers : I suppose she and a few others want to "blame" Michigan's OBESITY problem on a piece of red meat??? FRankly I think Michigan is just one of a few LAZY union states and that is where obesity stems from ?
WELL NOW .... Michigan's number one source of income  is agriculture and let's remember how hard, self employed dedicated farmers really work. Less health insurance cuz I'm happy doing what I want to do, breathing clean fresh air and no one is going to "cover" my shift if I dont feel good ???

What is it with governors trying to pass laws on what we eat.

I think if this health care bill gets passed, or even deemed and passed, you will start to see more of this. If the government is paying for your health care, they will regulate what you eat, drink, become exposed to, etc etc, all in the name of making you healthier so you won't be as much of a burden for the system.

This is only the beginning...

Communism is when the gov't "passes" a bill without voting on it (health care bill). Yes, they are probably going to do it because they do not have the votes....

But on a good note, I am teaching a class called "Ag Issues" where we cover current issues facing the agriculture world. We have researched both peta and hsus and have made a wonderful bulletin board explain why no one should support them, but instead support their local animal shelter. I plan on some "issues" with some of the students, so we will see.
We have also contacted the Ellen Show due to her continued support of the author of "eating animals" and her repeated bashing of the livestock industry. To date, she has not replied. Our next step is to contact her advertizers to voice our concerns. Anyone want to help us out??

I think the whole meat out thing is so stupid, she does not understand what us farmes and beef producers do for our country. All she is doing is targeting us as beef producers and it does need to be stopped. This subject was brought up in my Ag class today and we are thinking about having a cook out instead of a meat out! I am only 16 years old and I have a lot of life ahead of me and producing beef is my life. I dont need her getting in the way of that at all! But she doesnt think that through. Well with that said im going to go cook myself a steak  ;D

Okie dokie...

Communism is an economic policy and has nothing to do with the voting process.  Democracy and communism are capable of existing in the same form of government.

Our educational system has failed when there are teachers who do no realize that very basic fact.
