I give Bovi-gold 5 L5  to all cows about a week after they calf.  It won't hurt the nursing calf.  All heifer calves after 6 mths get the same thing followed with a booster 4 weeks later.  All others  Bovi-shield.  I've never lost one to any sickness by following this program.  Also, at birth, or at least as close to birth as possible, I give calves 20 cc of polyshield.

I think it's really important to talk to your vet to get a recommended protocol specific to your area and your herd.

You might need something more or less than what we need here.

I second that. You need to work with a vet to determine what you need for your area and herd. Having a good working relationship is very critical.

On moving to a new area, I asked the new vet what vaccinations I should be giving for the area.

His reply " What vaccinations aren't you giving?"!
