Anybody have any rules or ideas about how to price these club calves?
What I was told was county fair steers with the potential to be class winners should be no less than $1200 to $1500 and up.
Calves better than that should of course be higher.
Plainer, good calves should be $800 to $1200 especially if they are started on feed, vaccinated, dewormed, broke to tie, clipped etc.
What are your thoughts?

if you want to sell calves year after year to your county fair...go and watch their 4h/ffa sponsored market sale...see what the kids are getting for their final product...deduct an "average" expense for the project...and see what's left.... let that "help" you  set your prices....there are usually a few who will spend whatever to win...but the majority will only spend enough to at worse break even...

I guess it all depends on where you're at, I wouldn't even consider paying 12-15 for a county fair steer since that is all you will get for one when they sell. Plainer good calves here go to the sale barn.

700 to 900 for a county fair steer sounds about right.  Anything more teaches the kid the wrong lesson.  Major show propests that can win, well, that is a different story.
