I agree. If you see an animals head coming towards you - you usually can tell what's coming behind it. I've yet to see a bad animal with a good head!

There is a well known and successful sale manager here in Canada, who often says he could select cattle for any sale he is managing, if the owners would just send him a picture of the animal's head. I agree that an animal's head can tell a person a lot about it's overall quality, but it is not the only factor that needs to be considered. That said, it is an important consideration.

many people claim that as the cattle are running through a chute at them-- they can make claim to their worth...  I tend to agree...
Unfortunately, I view those comments in the same light as those of fortunetellers who are not millionaires!

I agree, if you can't see his 'engine room', he won't be much to look at!

Have a look at these pictures of what I deem to be excellent bulls from pictures taken on an Irish trip in 2007.  I was very impressed with the cattle I saw and you Irish are a very hospitable bunch of farmers!

I acquired genetics of two Irish bulls after my visit, one used to great success, the other still in the tank!

Hey Duncraggan. Just out of interest what two bulls did you get semen from?

Waukaru has lots of great bulls and females. I am a little suprised they don't get more  (clapping) on steerplanet and every where else.  I realy like what they are doing over there.
Some people are a little more uneasy than necessary. Waukauru did the best they could during the pre-Ethanol years, by documenting the "grow-ability" of their cattle...and getting them out into the Industry. What's wrong with that?

Would i like to see more guts, nutts, and butts put on their calves? Yes. What would happen with captain Obvious or American Muscle on those good, slick-haired cows?

The best example of what "could be....If...." is Crooked Post Grissom. Check out his video on You Tube. He's so slick-haired (in Canada), that, you can almost see people's shadow on his hide in the video clip.

Waukaru Patent 8161 has the makings of a great sire.  I have seen limited animals by him but the ones I have are stand outs.

I have to admit that the Grissom bull is one of my top picks as well.  His phenotype was fantastic and his offspring are consistent.  The Crooked Post herd has some incredible beef cattle and they have used a lot of Waukaru bloodlines.

Grissom is a grandson of C P Boston Bodacious 12H which is a bull with Waukaru top and bottom.  Bodacious is also the sire of Patent's dam :)

I like the Crooked Post cattle a lot too but for marketability we need a bit of colour for over this side of the world. Are all/or the majority of the Crooked Post cattle dark red in colour?

Crooked Post has a herd that is mainly red. I  honestly think that they could be mated for colour if that is a preference. Crooked Post have some really good cattle

I think that has to be one of the most novice things I've ever heard anyone say...  Even you Jamie-- YOu should know that with the right selection of color genetics-- you can mate ANY ANIMAL any colore... Even the Angus guys could make red roans after a generation or two.  if they so desired...

I have a grasp on colour lets use a red cow for example. She could be bred to have 100%(white bull), 50% (roan bull) or 0% (red bull) roan calves.  Whereas a roan cow only has 50% chance of having a roan calf bred red white or roan.  If you took the time to read everything instead of skimming you would have most likely understood my post.

no duh jaime..  which is why I posted what I did..

someone stated they liked the bull- but would prefer him to be roan..
you stated that the herd is red- but could easily be mated for roans.
i stated that any breed, of any color- could easily be mated for roans-- not just his cowherd.

hmm I think you are being obnoxious just for the sake of it. I was stating a herd was really a good group and that colour is a small thing... Perhaps you should try the power of positive thinking makes life more enjoyable
