With our club calf herd we always have our club calf sale the weekend before Halloween. This year we will be going online for the first time
so we want to push the calves on grain earlier than we usually do. We usually wean at the end of July and halter break all through June
and July and push on grain after weaning. But now we need suggestions on when we should wean the calves since we want them to look fat for the online sale. Any suggestions on when we should wean the calves to start on grain. We were also thinking of trying to weaning nose rings for the calves to ease some of the stress then wean them from their mothers... Any suggestions??

The nose tab weaners work well.  What I noticed using them last year is that the calves were pretty quiet.  If they couldn't nurse, they just went off and ate grass.  The cows on the other hand were the worst.  At about day 2 they were crowded into the corner of the pasture mooing and fighting with each other and just plain cranky.  They were over it in about 5 days.  We pulled the calves after a week and took them home and they went right to feed without a problem.

When are you wanting to have the pictures all posted? I'd say to adjust your schedule accordingly to have them ready for pictures instead of the sale. You could always creep feed the calves to give them some extra goodies. We use Purina pre-con feed and the calves do exceptional on it!! They don't skip a beat gain well and don't ever seem stressed.
