Took a few pictures today of some of the bulls in the pen. I thought I should post a couple pictures of standout bulls that a ET flushmates out of Weston Trademark 3rd "Fillet". The cow is a Haumont cow. So they are appendix free.

How's that possible that you like him -- his girth and length are almost the same. And at 85" length he would have to be considered extremely long sided by anyone's definition.-XBAR- said:OH Breeder said:Love this cow and her son....

But I agree he is a really good looking bull -- even if he sires calves that are long bodied! <cowboy>
That's the bull. I've never seen him but according to Ralph's website, he's 85" down his top line. If he's that long then yes he would be long spined in any breed. And if you use the traditional measurement for length (point of shoulder to pin bone, from several of his pics he looks like he has plenty of lenght (although there's 1-2 where he looks short). For me, the best expression of length is in the offspring and there are a couple of red heifers and a red bull/steer that look to be plenty long sided -- not excessive but certainly longer than average and for me proportioned correctly with the rest of their scale.-XBAR- said:JoeBnTN said:How's that possible that you like him -- his girth and length are almost the same. Who are you talking about? Surely you're not talking about Coalpit Creek Leader? He closer to being short coupled than long sided. He does have a pretty long hip though.
Long spined doesn't necessarily equate to long sided. He might be long spined if yhou measure all the way to the pins but his "side" stops way short of his pins. The bull has an enourmous hip that takes up a good portion of his spine. I just printed off a picture of him and busted out my architectural scale. If length is measured from the pin bone to the point of the shoulder, the bulls hip-from hook back- is 1/3 of his length. In terms of proportion that's very impressive IMO.JoeBnTN said:That's the bull. I've never seen him but according to Ralph's website, he's 85" down his top line.
