Well it is that time again.  Time to breed our fall calving clubby cows for show steers.  What would be your top 3 choices? Please exclude Heat Wave.  I know he is the king but his big calves scare me off.

obviously you close your eyes and ears to the rest of the club calf bulls. if big calves scare you off...

alot of good choices out there, but IMO most people's top 3, excluding HW, will be any three of his sons...  pick and choose.. throw a dart at the board.

I like Eye Candy, for alot of what he brings to the table.  I also think that Captain Morgan can bring some tremendously interesting peices, and last but not least maybe Carpe Diem-- not just cuz of his color.  I've got all three bulls in my tank, and only have about 4 or 5 clubby type bulls in there.  Obvisously, these three mentioned bulls all bring differing options and benefit to the table-- but then again, they're only three of the million options.

I really like what Eye Candy has done the past year so if we are excluding HW, I guess he has to top my list.  Monopoly has to be in there as well, I never was a big fan of this bull himself, but you cant deny what he has proven, which is that he works really well on a variety of cattle. There are a lot of bulls out there I am watching right now that I think have a lot of potential. But most all of these clubby bulls are gonna have BW issues if that scares you.  So I will add what is my favorite of what I think are the "calving ease" for the clubby industry and that is Thriller.

I think if your in the business of raising show stock for profit you to think about these 3 bulls

1.) Monopoly- don't really like him all that much myself but he is proven and MLC have really marketed his name so everybody knows him. "BIG NAMES SELL"
2.)Eye Candy- can flat out perform especially if you don't have the cow power as some of the bigger names do
3.) My Turn-  calves arent as consistant but if seen some of his calves put up some big numbers and some really nice ones as well

Nothing that is a revelation here, but my thoughts based on my own experience:

Walks Alone - Had one last year and he is in the barn being shown and feeding well.  Have about ten on the ground this year and so far they are pretty easily the best group of calves I have.  I've had zero calving trouble.  He makes them really thick - consistently so.  Cow needs to be long and pretty I think to even out the thickness that WA throws.

Monopoly - I was a little late to the party, but I think his calves get better with age.  Feeding two this year that we raised.  The knock on him is that some say his calves aren't thick enough.  That certainly isn't my experience.  I have one born this year out of a Friction cow that if he stays sound, he's probalby the best steer I've ever raised.  Some of the calves out of Monopoly are about knee high to a grasshopper though - they'll get heavy, but too short (certainly not all).  I prefer him on bigger cows.

Charolais Bulls - I really like Troubador on stout cows.  He makes them very smooth and pretty and the calves come very small at birth in our cows and then just take off.  I strongly prefer purebred Char bulls on black cross cows over the many halfblood bulls that are out there.

1. Walks Alone has been one of my favorites for the past 2 years, he has more sellable calves for high sellers that I have seen more than Monopoly, Monopoly does hit some home runs but not as often as Walks Alone that I have seen.

2. Bojo, wow I have not been a believer in him for very long but the last 2 years, but I am now from all the nice calves I have seen from him, he was the top selling steer this years club calf sale by me (Casper College Club Calf Sale).

3. Milk Man I love his stock and he has been dominating rings down in Texas and the south for the last couple of years. I got an awesome Milk Man heifer that is a dark smokey color that I am really excited about and will be breeding her this spring.

I do like Eye Candy but those are my top 3.

Agree with most everyone, Eye Candy, Monopoly, and Walks alone.

Eye candy will put hair and thickness on hard.

Walks Alone, my semen quality has been stellar! went 9-10 AI and the cows I have flushed to him had tons of fertilized eggs. I will have more walks alone calves next year than any other sire before. People might say hes too little but the calves seem to get big enough.
Monopoly, I am very late to the band wagon, but they seem to be doing great everywhere, have my first one coming next year.
Never used eye candy but have considered it. Heat wave would be my number two behind walks alone.
third is solid gold, use him....my high seller and top two calves were sired by him i love them! I dont meajn the shortie bull I mean the brandon horn bull

Here my top three and they are based soley on how they have worked on my cows this year:

Walks Alone--He moderates frame, adds style and muscle, great hair, calves easy out of cows.

Uno Mas--He moderates frame, adds bone and muscle, really powerful calves, great dispositions, gives you some smokes, larger calves but not no pulls out of cows.  Like a smokey version of Heatwave.

No Apologies--Really glad I sampled this one.  Moderates frame, adds body, muscle and correctness..  Calves easy.  Used on heifers and will use again.

Semen quality has been great on all three of these bulls.  I have been dissapointed with the semen quality on another popular clubby bull but won't mention his name since it could just be a stroke of luck.
