Tell me what you think, Good or Bad. I have some purebred angus cows, and some angus/simm, angus/maine cows and im always lookin for the correct formula. I've done pretty well for bein 27 years old and startin to have alot of people wantin calves, but heres my list, tear it appart and let me know what you would use on angus cross cows to make cool steers!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               CLUB CALVES: eye candy, smooth sailing, my turn, point taken, apollo, johnny walker red.  cant wait to see the walks alone calves next year, couldnt get semen this year!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  ANGUS: CJ prestige, duff new edition, EL capitan, Limestone Darkhorse, & BC big daddy! I have seen some of Prestige's maternal sisters and they are very nice. I have been thinking about using him too. I am also trying El Capitan this year. It seems like you have a real nice list

thats good to hear! im gonna flush my prized cow to prestige this year, he looks like a stud, unfortunately i missed denver for the first time in 9 years so i didnt get to see him in person! Sounds like we have the same taste in the angus bulls, which has worked quite well for me out here in idaho, but just found out El Capitan is a hydro carrier just in case you havent heard!

Your list isn't too bad there youngun. Here are a couple more that seems to work with Angus and Sim Angus cows..... MONEY SHOT and TYCOON. Of all the bulls you have listed I prefer SMOOTH SAILING.Good Luck.

thanks Clubcalve! Creative Cattle, ive worked for Bear Mountain Angus for around ten years at the shows and their sales and brian talked to Darrel Silveria and he told brian he was a hydro carrier, so brian called me knowing i was planning on using him and gave me the warning. I also found it posted on Lances blog on Cattlevisions web site.

One of the better lists I've seen, you're missing some top ones but from that list you must have seen them all, or gotten lucky picture judging. Most of your list look the part in person.

well thank you Cowman! If you are worried there was no heat wave/clones or sunseeker on my list.....i was doin awesome with the heat wave 1, and ever since 3 years ago i must be gettin heat wave 20somethin and they just arent doin it for me, and sunseeker calves on my cows are a little too tall for my taste, and the great ones ive had (2) have died so, ive decided to move on without them!

I just meant some of the most impressive ones in person aren't on the list, but you've got most of them. Not heatwave/clones or sunseeker.

Smooth Sailing has been doing awesome specially on the half blood Semi cows.  You may want to look at Dirty Harry he has got some hairy buffalos on the ground that I have seen.

I don't know how many cows you have... But you might be setting yourself up for a disapointment with that long of a list in terms of consistancy.  Seems to me to find a cross that works and do it over and over again... Keep making good ones.. quit trying to peice by peice build cattle.  Shoot for the whole picture.

Breed good to good..

not average, but good here. to average and good there..

Prob just my 2 cents...

Well we have about 90 commercial cows and i have 15 purebred angus cows, our younger cows are out of a few of my angus bulls that have been champion or reserve at our state sale, the bulls ive listed seem to be the more consistant ones from talkin to friends who are big in the club calf business. we also have some younger clubby females out of mossy oak, who made who, easy out, heat seeker, and unfortunately heat wave. My only problem is CONSISTANTLY getting heifers, i think im cursed. We had really good luck with heat seeker, so im tryin some different heat seeker sons, and heatwave/clones u never know which clone your getting but i do know that heatwave 1 worked for me and i know from the last few years thats not what ive been gettin. With the simmy in my herd i am looking to tone them down a little frame wise, and these are the bulls I hope will get the job done. I do completely agree, once i find a bull that REALLY clicks with our cows like heatseeker and heatwave 1 did, then i'll stick with them. My steers have been doin really well, I just always want them to be better.
