Just trying to get a good idea on an average cull cow price to decide weather or not to purchase an older cow and bull (6 and 7).
What does a 8-9 year old cull cow bring at market?

Last week I sold a 1900lb cow (6 years old) for $0.70/per pound. The 12-1300 pound cows were bringing around 75-80 cents. That's in Southern Alberta.

Low Dressers $63.00 - $78.00/ cwt
Old & Thin Cows $25.00 - $55.00 / cwt
Really depends on how much fat cover they carry. The fatter they are the more money they will bring.

My guess is that there will be large #s of good slaughter cows come to town way earlier than normal years B/C of opens & extremely high feed prices & very hard to find hay @ prices that you can afford to feed it @. Spring runs will be lighter than normal.
