what I miss...

I know technology is great blah blah blah...but I really miss a real life show cattle auction.  Loading the kids up, going thru the calves, the excitement of an auctioneer....sadly I believe those are things of the past.  Right now I have 3 heifers I'm watching .#3 heifer closes first, #2 heifer closes second, and my #1 heifer is a phone bid off that could last a week.  ugh if it was a good old fashion auction it wham bam thank you mam you bought her lol.  Oh well, shame my youngest may never know the thrill of a live show heifer auction :'(  OK done venting...just stay away from the 3 heifers I'm looking at hahaha

I'm with you justme, the world today has become so impersonal. We don't talk to one another in person or via phone anymore either, it's email or text. Almost everything has gone to the web and trying to buy cattle like this is just too frustrating for me. It's a shame that we have our future generations growing up without any of the skills and experiences most of us took for granted until a few short years ago. GrandDad would be beside himself if he were here today!!!

I hate that I can't see who is bidding against me  :'(.  I also miss just general B.S. from each other...some of my best times where hanging around eatting a burger and chatting at sales (thumbsup)

i just sold 4 calves this past weekend at jacksons mill, wv. it was the 82nd annual gathering of club calves from across wv. it is the oldest running club calf show and sale in the country. we show on friday and saturday, then the auction sale is on sunday. there are some families that have been represented in all 82 events. On sale day, its a packed house in the arena. the highest selling female this yr was an I80 hfr that brought around $10,500 ( not mine lol)and the highest selling steer was a monopoy at $6,600 (also not mine lol). Several steers over $5k. I really like selling at auction. Its an exciting atmosphere. there were buyers from ohio, va, pa, md, nj, ky, tn , and indy. its a great event overall.

That sounds like a neat sale! I think technology is a great improvement to the old-fashion ways we've always done things, but I don't want to see it REPLACE the way we've always done things. That would be a mistake and a shame.

I enjoyed visiting with friends and making new ones as much as I enjoyed walking through the pens.
