This is a 14 year old cow we have that we are going to flush......but to what bull?? What do all you think.....breed for heifers or breed for steers? All I know about the cows breeding is that she is a Maine x Angus. She is massive and is the easiest moving animal I have ever seen. The only way i would fault her is that she needs a little neck extension. but what should I flush her to?? She was flushed last year to Star Power and had 18 embryos, we haven't implanted any yet though. I have Climax,Manchild,Heat Wave,Smooth Sailing,Milkman,Pale Face, Irish Whiskey,Alias, and 3 straws of Meyer 734 that I would kinda like to hold on to. also got Monopoly, vortec, eyes on the money,Northern Improvement,DCC Outer Limits. Thanks everyone! I know I'll get a great and educated response from the SteerPlanet family! ;D ;D ;D

I think
What have you had luck with in the past would be my first question? What has worked for you?

Females- she has a great body and I would want to replicate her too.
Who Made Who
Northern improvement
Meyer
Irish Whiskey
Climax- I do'nt know anything about him haven't used him but early reports are good on him.

Steers
Heat Wave
Heat Seeker
Milkman
Who

In my limited knowledge , I would try for females with Outer Limits or IW with the semen you have on hand.
BTW, nice cow.

If breeding for females I would go with Irish Whiskey, although he might not add any neck extension, another option on the female route is Full Flush or Carney Man.  All three of these will work for steers as well.  If going just for steers I would use Heat Wave, Monopoly, then Smooth Sailing.

Just  talking to people my choice would be My  Turn  unless you were going for females an as good as she is I  can see why. Are you going to keep the eggs , if so I would put one unit of 734 an then a couple of My Turn ,an shot both way's. Just a thought . Jamie   There sure has been some good looking IW around ----------.

Id flush her once to meyer734 or wmw for females. and then again to monopoly for steer/bull prospects and see what she is going to be better suited for in the future and then stick with it for the productive years she has left. Very nice cow!!!

If I was saving heifers I would go Climax, or Dr.Who. That way they would be defect free (unlike IW)

But I have often wondered why someone would flush a cow to a bull they hadn't had an actual calf out of. She is 4, so she should have had at least 2 calves. What were those calves? Good? Bad?
She appears nice, so I don't think flushing her is a bad idea.

Maybe research her pedigree and see what similiar pedigreed females had and if the offspring was successful. That would me advice. Good Luck.

She's 14, so there may not be a lot of time to breed to to these other bulls that they would like calves out of.

For Females i would suggest "outer limits" in our herd he extended and cleaned necks while keeping a nice deep soggy body on a moderate frame. calves are also surprisngly thick for an angus bull.    ........... Something simmental is also a female option, everybody loves those blaze faced heifers

Steers: Milkman, cattelac jack

Oops. My bad! I re-read the post and indeed she is 14. Sorry I didn't see that.

If it makes you feel better, I flushed at 14 and then 15 year old angus and had good luck with getting embryos, but so far, not much luck with getting them to stick. I put in 10 more this spring, will know in about 2 weeks on their status.

The 734 was a good suggestion. I know it is hard to use, as I had some also, but decided it wasn't doing much just sitting in my tank! So I flushed with it. Good Luck

If she were mine and I had 734 in the tank I would not hesitate to flush to him, all of the cows in my pasture that look like her went Irish Whiskey.  I guess my opinion would be flush her maternal since she is 14 get some replacements for her and then if she is still producing try for some steers.  I will say it has been our experience that the 1st flush doesn't alway produce the most eggs some I would use some cheaper semen like IW and see how you get along before using the 734.  Like everyone else, what has worked on her in the past?
