We just returned from the Badger Kick Off.  The kids did fairly well in showmanship, but not as well as we would have liked or expected in the Market Prospect Steer Classes.  We are trying to gather as much information as we can on daily hair care along with fitting.  It is obvious that a well fitted steer is going to do better than one that is only fit okay.  It is a constant learning process.  This was the first time we had gone to Badger Kick off and at times it was truly overwhelming -- mostly seeing the number of people working on one animal.  Anyway -- what I am wondering is what are most doing for daily care in the winter?  We have been working the hair daily by spraying with the combo of Infusim, vinegar and show sheen.  Combing and then blowing dry.  Both steer are very hair -- plus we did just pick up a roto brush.  Where we live the daily temps are often below zero.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if it's that cold then calves will grow hair without being rinsed. if at all possible you should rinse them whenever it is warm enough to keep the hair clean and workable. if it is too cold too wash in your opinion then just try and blow them out and clean them up as best as possible. brushing is still key and will help keep the hair trained and workable.
