Nice calf, don't take this wrong, but good for you on breeding her to a moderate calver (in our realm) for her second calf! Looks like you were well rewarded... <rock>

Thanks! With having a small herd currently, I am not willing to take a risk on a larger bull just to make a few more dollars when the risk of harming or losing the cow is greatly increased. With my program, I usually wait til calf # 3 and beyond before using higher bw bulls.

My thoughts for spring breeding season are to breed her to Simple Math, what are your thoughts?

My plans are to potential set her up to be flushed in next few years but this will be after I have her tested for TH and PHA but if i was a betting man, I would guess she is a THC. I hope that she is not as that opens alot more doors but it is what it is. Thanks for the input!

Also, he is for sale!!!!  (thumbsup)

Will you sell him as a bull or steer?  The fact that you have a small herd kind of sucks, as most of the cows are probably closely related.  I would have her TH tested- cause if he's a clean calf, he's a damn good one, and so is the dam.  If she's dirty, I'd try a bull like One and Only from Rodgers.  He's proven not to throw big calves, plus the calf should be a baldy and he's THF.  If not, still go with him, but it opens up doors for the future.  I'd try to find a guy with a bigger herd and see if they like him.  Really an outcross on genetics, you could sell full possesion and 1/2 semen interest.  I like this guy, and I normally find lots of flaws with lots of cattle.  With Mercedes being his sire I would've thought he wouldv'e been chromed up a little..

Best of luck with this chill little dude,
RCC

Thanks for all the interest!

I am interested in selling either as a bull or a steer. It is my plan to test cow before breeding season but wont have results back until after she is bred but will use results for flushing and later matings.

In regards to time-to-show comment, everything is for sale! If you have interest in the cow, PM me and we will chat.

As far as size of my herd. When I graduated college 2 years ago, I bought 4 bred heifers. 2 Leroy Brown 1 Dr. Who 1 PB Angus. These cows came off same farm but besides the similarity of sires on the 2, there is no other relation in pedigree so options are a bit more open there.

Redirtroad- Benz calves develop guts with time. This cow had a bull calf last year for her first calf that developed a great deal of guts to him. I think this dude will develop guts with time, and it will also come with his nutrition (the power of HSC Depth Charge :)

We have a MB out of a BC Lookout that is deep. We just took him to a show and the judge comented on his depth.

MO Clubby- Have you ever used Mercedes on a first calf heifer?  What were your results like?

No I sure havent but what I have witnessed and heard from other breeders. I would consider it. I have never heard of a big calf out of him. Has anyone else?

Savaged posted a pic for me on another post of a chromed up little guy.  Stout, deep, big boned, and HAIRY! The topic is "Dubai" and it's about at the bottom of the first page of the big show now at 10AM Central Time.  He's pictured at two months.. It's a real good calf, almost as good as yours  (thumbsup)
