We had 1 like  that 3 weeks ago. My vet had seen this once before on a dairy calf--she saved that one (operated after 2 days and the calf was strong). So she wanted to try again,but calf died within an hour after operation. My vet thought it was fluke of nature.

I was always under the understanding that F1's were offspring from a purebred sire of 1 breed and a purebred dam of another breed. hence the term f1 as in 1st cross.  If your cows are not purebred and you are looking at a non-pure bull... I wouldn't think there was much hybrid vigour left...

he is #1 on my list to use on some heifers this year. I had never heard that there was a correlation between sire and malpresentation?  I just figured that it was bad luck!!

Here is to hoping that trend continues in Eastern Canada. We have 6 real good shorthorn bulls in the saint Martin test sale  next Saturday, from Shadybrook,Cedar Grove and Maxwell. Will be broadcast on liveauctions.tv.
