    Red's consignment

Assuming that is the same Red Maple Farm, would you post a picture here of that Cherry Bomb heifer and maybe tell us more about her? She looks broody and well put together. Has she been serviced? If not...will she have been serviced by mid march and to whom? Great looking red heifer! I also...

    heifer program in ohio

If this has already been posted please forgive me. I'm pretty fussy about what my calves eat and how they are handled. I'm retaining only 4 from last year's crop. 2-4 is average for me. I don't think i'd ship my replacements off to be fed by someone else. It might cost me more to do it myself...

    Hormonal gremlin?

Sorry for the delay in responding. Had a death in the family this week and it has been hectic. I appreciate all the responses. Answers to DL's questions: #1= She is not a heifer. She is a 1999 model. She has had 3 calves and in fact one of my best cows is her daughter. No breeding problems with...

    Hormonal gremlin?

I have a hereford cow that will not carry a calf to term. I'm quite embarrassed to say that she has not calved in 2 years. She will cycle, the bull will service her and she will come back in heat in about 4 months. My herd is disease free and my bull is quite competent. I even tried AI ing her...

    Durham Reds

I know of a really good red angus bull that would add performance and maternal to any cow. Not recommended for heifers and he is not mine. I stand to gain nothing from pushing him. I sold a pretty good steer out of him last year. And the calves grow fast. I've never seem the bull in person but I...

    calving heater boxes

Hey Red, we don't have a commercially made heater box but we have our own method that works pretty well. We have a cap on the old farm truck and put a propane heater in the front of the bed. Close the cap up and it gets pretty toasty in there. We have a heavy blanket on the truck bed and a box...

    Health insurance

This is a good question Red. I'm waiting for the responses too. Hubby worked in a factory for 5 years and we had coverage thru them but it was expensive. We are both self employed now with not a drop of insurance, life or health.

    carrier cattle and sales

I brought this from another thread because I thought it needed addressed all on it's own. I agree with Red here. These breeding animals that are carriers need to dealt with so this does not continue to spiral out of hand.

    PHA hot off the presses!

Red I have to aplaud you on your decision to not flush the Gold Club heifer. I know that must be hard on your operation but it deserves a pat on the back at the very least. We need more folk like you in the industry. Then TH and PHA would not be as big of an issue. THANKS!!!
