I wanted to let everyone know that I received a letter from Genex yesterday. It went on to explain that all semen currently stored there will be moved to the Billings Montana Facility. Genex Dakota Sire in Mitchell has been sold and will be closing.
The first shorthorn bull I bought GB Dazzler 120. I stopped out at Gordon Brockmueller's, late in the spring of '02 and everything was pretty well picked over. I picked up a roan bull for $900 that everyone passed over because of color and he was horned. Turns out he was a full brother to GB...
I was a surprised to see one of the bulls we used mentioned in this thread. I can shed a little light on the A&T Lone Ranger bull. I visited with Aaron before I bought him. I was a little nervous about the WW as well. His dam went to get flushed while he was at side. He got sick while there...
Well put Wes. Thanks for the extra input and information. I think you made a great point about the costs and who pays. It would be great to have multiple events occurring with little to no cost to participating breeders. Unfortunately someone has to pick up the bill. It would be great if...
I think there is something to the correlation between usefulness and body shape. Couple of things though, animals, especially bulls, will look a lot different as they get older and mature. The secondary sexual characteristics should start to exaggerate. Necks are supposed to get thick and...
This is starting to get a little off the original topic but while we are on it. I think it is good to have the sire test started and hopefully it will get going within the breed. Before I get too critical, it is the first year and there is plenty of room to grow and adapt. Not everything can...
the other day I stumbled across some pictures of some older shorthorn bulls on the internet. I was curious if anyone can remember if any of the bulls ever had semen collected. Some of the bulls I was wondering about include:
Goltho Signal 3rd
Boa Kae Royal Mint
Alice Downs Supreme 27th
Four...
I haven't looked at or noticed the registrations much lately. But I can speak a little on the topic from past experience.
There was a short time when a modified blood chart was used. It didn't give purebred status to 15/16 and if I remember right most cattle with the * also did not receive...
I contacted Steve French about the Argentine embryos last fall. At that time they were planning on implanting sometime this spring, so it might still be awhile before anything could be available.
I would suggest that there are scattered pockets of very good commercially driven shorthorns out...
I was just getting started with purebred cattle when I picked 120 out of Gordon's left over pen. I guess at the time there wasn't much demand for a roan horned bull. It wasn't until later when I started going through pedigrees a lot more that I realized what I really had. For some reason, I...
It may have changed, but the last time I checked the embryo's are only exportable if exportable semen is used. It would be something to check more into before going all in.
