FSF Kolt 45 and maternal shorthorn question.

Thanks Mark, looks like HID would work good on my shorthorn cow. The other question regarding Kolt45 was because i have a few black maintainers i'm looking to breed clubby.

FSF Kolt 45 and maternal shorthorn question.

Anyone using Kolt 45? Happy with the results? Also, i have a shorthorn cow i really like but she passes on issues with her back legs. She's getting older so i would like to breed her to something to put in the replacement pen, improve structure, make a good cow, really want roan. She seems to...

    Melatonin\weight gain

If you put Melotonin in the search bar there are some pretty specific  instructions  on here from a few years ago. I have been buying the 10mg tablets from Sams Club and giving 10 of those a day (100mg) for the last 90 days. I think it helps keep hair and cheaper than buying the stuff designed...

    BDR calf

Nice cow! Its around $25.00 bucks to get her tested through Zoetis. I had a couple potential carriers tested and they both came back clean, money well spent...

    Soundness of bulls

The judges seam to all have the same rehearsed speech when they start a show, it goes something like this. "i'm going to hard on structure, i'm not into extremes, cattle need to be able to walk" Then when they start sorting they forget all that and pick the one with the biggest butt thats...

    incorporation of % wygu cattle.

How big are the Wygu calves? I was thinking about using them on some of my first calf clubby heifers (looking for calving ease) and then raising them for beef.

    My new Shorthorn herd sire

I agree. I will be getting him tested. He came from a grass-fed beef program so i was shocked when i saw his pedigree that they would use a carrier bull. The point of the post was that i think he's pretty sharp but with all the focus on him being a potential carrier maybe i'm barn blind.

    My new Shorthorn herd sire

In full transparency he was part of a herd reduction auction sale, there were 3 bulls and he was my 2nd choice so i didnt research his pedigree before the auction. I didnt think (not sure why) TH carriers could be registered as purebreds, just plus's. I was disappointed  when i got his papers...

    My new Shorthorn herd sire

I'm kind of excited about him. I plan to test for TH and DS in the near future but i dont have any TH or PHA carrier cows in my herd so im not hugely concerned. I AIed everything this year so he is strictly clean up. I do 7 day CIDR timed AI then turn the bull loose 2 weeks later. Last year all...

    Club Calf Sires

50% of birth weight comes from the dam. We had a 110lb Slider heifer out of a Monopoly heifer this spring and an 80lb Monopoly 7 heifer out of a Shorthorn/Maine cow.

    Steer Not Eating

How much does he weigh now?  If the second ration made him stop eating try eliminating that for now. Maybe try just hay for a couple days, then go back to the first ration.  We have had good luck with Stand Alone to keep them eating when they are almost finished. Stand Alone Chubby will put some...
