Article about HS Rodeo Drive written by Doc Hunsley 20 years ago

Does anybody really know what the maternal side of his pedigree is?  His GG Grand-dam is HS Kendra Ann 209th and listed at 50% shorthorn and black with white marks.    So she could be some combination of Angus,  Black White Face,  or Holstein.  The fact that Rodeo Drive was reputed to sire...

Heifer bagging up for some reason

Two possibilities come to mind.  One or more of the calves is sucking her.  Secondly,  heifers sometime develop a hormone secreting tumor of the ovary or  cystic ovaries.    A simple rectal exam of the ovaries is called for at this time.

    RETNUH

There was a huge exodus from the breed in the 50's and 60's and most of those cattle were never heard from again.  This was because the breed couldn't or wouldn't change to meet the needs of the evolving beef and dairy industries.  However,  a second factor in the loss of those great early...

    New Herdsire

To each,  his own!  It seems pointless to operate a registered cattle operation and continuously use average bulls.  Maybe my terminology is at fault,  but personally I wouldn't use a bull who was not better than what I already have.

So,  according to the Canadian DigitalBeef data,  Robert has 56 calves with recorded birth weights at 88 pounds average,  40 calves with weaning weights at 559 pounds average and 27 calves with yearling weights at 864 pounds.  The bull himself weighted 85 pounds at birth,  weaned at 520 and had...

    Meuse-Rhine-Yssel

In early 1970,  the English Dairy Shorthorn initiated a breed improvement scheme to improve milk yields,  monitor growth rate and feed efficiency as well as carcass composition.  Their objective was to produce a red, red and white or roan hybrid based on the Dairy Shorthorn.  They introduced...
