    Cooler Room Alarms

I see your point, I have a cooling unit, turbo fan and a fresh air fan all set up on different circuits.  The likelyhood of all 3 systems failing at once is slim to none, only power outage can take all 3 out at once. Then I have my door system in case of that, just my way of doing things and a...

    Cooler Room Alarms

Instead of putting in an alarm, I installed a 3500 lb. electromagnetic latch on the door and attached a bungy cord to the handle and opposing fence.  When you lose power the latch releases and the door swings open and calves receive fresh air, problem solved.  This set-up cost me less than $300.

    Porta Cool

I have one we have used for four years in our show barn, has been great for the calves during the Texas high heat and humidity.  Clean up is relatively easy once the unit is diassembled.

    Ford Powerstroke question

I have to agree here, the injectors and heads on the 6.0 are notorious for going out.  I have a '01 with a 7.3 and 250,000 miles with no problems and two '08 F350's with the 6.4.  I avoided the 6.0 like the plague, good luck and find a buyer.

Very proud for your family success and determination.  The tough wins are always the sweetest, I shed my tears of pride and joy also this year with my two sons victory.  This is what life is all about as a parent, teaching our kids to get up and go again when life knocks you off your feet. ...

how big is too big on the weight card

My oldest son won Reserve Grand Champion at county with a 1400 lb. Heat Wave, long spined, huge bone and it took all 1400 lbs. to make him look spot on finished.  Then again youngest son won Grand Champion with a 1250 lb. steer at same show and carried more finish than the 1400 lb'er.  To me the...

Brothers Take Home Top Steer Honors

Thanks for all the kind words.  I had some serious health issues this past summer, so the boys really stepped up their game taking 100% care of the calves.  Winning was nice, but just being around to be a part of it was priceless.  Grand Champion was bred by Garrett Gerhardt and the Reserve...

Who all is going to the steer show at Fort Worth???

It has happened to us a couple of times with Class 1 Brangus heifers, introduction of judge, pledge to the flag, invocation, and National Anthem.  The kids have trouble maintaining their animal and still show respect to our God and Country.  We will be in Class 1 or 2 and Class 7 or 8 in...

    Houston Calf Scramble

This award my son received was for his hard work, not his heifer.  He was last in his class.

    Houston Calf Scramble

There have been numerous inquiries about how scrambles work lately.  In 2009 my oldest son caught a calf in Houston and received a $1500 certificate to purchase a heifer to return and show in 2010.  This was a year long process of writing monthly reports, financial statements, breed essay and...
