    man among boys calves.

Thanks! I just realized the picture I had as my profile is actually the dam of this heifer calf. She got reserve supreme at our fair and didn't get the chance to show her elsewhere. She isn't the showy type they are looking for but more the finished cow look according to the judge.

    man among boys calves.

This is a heifer calf we are selling this year. This is the first year we have used him and have a few very nice calves out of him. We bred our shorthorn "Elderado" cow to him. This is the result. Tons of hair also even during spring and start of the hot summer. Not sure the picture is showing up.

Calves born with rear leg issues

I really don't remember what the other calves are out of at this moment without looking in records. I would never have guessed this calf to ever walk, but he has finally managed to get up and around on his own! The cow would actually walk to him and nurse him while he was lying down. He is so...

Calves born with rear leg issues

Last update. Had the vet out today to place embyros in some cows and had him take a look at the two calves with the same issues. He said most likely from pulling  or calf jacking. Since we're breeding club calf bulls, going to have a lot of hip to them and trying to pull them out, usually will...

Calves born with rear leg issues

Did hear a pop when the calf was just past ribs. Wasnt sure if it was in the cow or calf. Im really surprised we even got him out as big as he was! Thank god the cow was big enough. I will try to get a video of him. We have to help him get up, he can supposrt himself on one leg a lttile while...

Calves born with rear leg issues

The vet didnt think spastic paresis. The symptoms didnt fit. The leg is not straight at all. Seems to be in the knee area. If we hold pressure on the anterior side of the knee, he can stand fairly well. But cannot get up by himself on that leg or walk around yet. The other one we had like that...

    Eye Candy Steer Calf

My girls would LOVE that one! We've been hoping for a colored calf like that, but nothing close. We'll just keep rolling the dice. Nice calf!

Calves born with rear leg issues

We have had 2 or 3 calves now that are born not being able to use one of it's rear legs. The last one was around 120# out of Choppin Wood. We calf jacked it. Has anyone else had problems like this? These are nice calves that we would have liked to shown, but can't cause they end up limping on...

A shot of LA 200 almost always works for us. Tried coppertox, etc, not much luck. Hope you find a cure!

Any Amen Calves on the Ground? I

We had a bull calf born last spring and we just clipped him for show next wknd. He is a stout, massive steer! We flushed his mother (Bleeding Purple) to Amen and got 42 embryos first time. His mom was kinda crazy, but his temperment is great. Did not get a birth weight on him since he was born...

Lineage of Strictly Business and Dirty Hairy bulls?

The SP sounds exactly like what these calves are presenting with symptoms. We thought a fluke with first one, but this is the fourth calf (pair of twins had it) to show same symptoms. These calves are all out of Ali or Dirty Harry bulls which are in the same lineage. Thanks for the heads up what...

BEST PLACE TO GET INSURANCE ON SHOW HEIFERS?

We used to have Farm Bureau, but didn't cover individual cows that we paid good money for, so swithched to Indiana's Farmers Mutual because we can put each show cow or steer on a individual basis.  If something does happen to them, we will get the value of the cow back, not the market value. We...
