Is anyone using Steam Rolled Oat (Groat) Flakes (like oatmeal) in their rations?

They're not terribly hard to find, but not everybody has them, and yep I buy them in 50lb bags.

Is anyone using Steam Rolled Oat (Groat) Flakes (like oatmeal) in their rations?

Yes, we use them a lot. Mostly use them on yearling heifers to help maintain body and bloom but not wanting to overdo one. Vastly prefer them to any other form of oat for our purposes.

What's on the ground so far?

No pics yet, but the best ones at our place are by Hot Commodity, Deception, Red Reward and Red Knight. Gonna start halter breaking the early Jans soon. Pretty pumped about the set we've got brewing this year!

    Hereford show genetics

Been showing a Hometown this year and she's really cool. Will make a better donor than a show heifer, but she's done some winning. I also took care of Mason before GKB bought him and he is the finest bull of any breed I have had the pleasure to show by some distance. We sell about 15...

    Fireball Whiskey calves?

Fireball is not a huge bull. Compared to Blackfords Simmental bulls, he's pretty moderate. The calves seem to have a bit more grow to them than Fireball himself, but I don't think he will add size.

    Adhesives

Vastly prefer Sullivan's adhesives and now paints as well. Big believer in using Prime Time and then building from there if necessary. If you get your glue warm and work the hair correctly as you go, Tail Glue will leave little to no residue.

    JSAR Argentina C81

Is that the one Mid Continent owns? If so, they have some nice heifers by him. Maybe a little later maturing than some stuff they've had in the past, but I think that works in their favor.

    Simplify Maine Bull

Just by nature of their respective breeding programs, the Musgrave bull is gonna be a little more cow oriented and the Power Chip bull is more of a show heifer type of deal. Not to say they can't do both. I have liked progeny out of both. The Power Chip is gonna have some BW in him due to the...

Is he stout enough for you?

    1. So what if the bull has been fed? I've seen bulls come back in really nice shape from grass but then their calves max out at 850lbs and don't make anyone any money. 2. Grant doesn't raise cattle for me to buy, but you surely can't make a decent living selling breeding stock your whole life...

    Simplify Maine Bull

We've got an Italian Stallion x Shorthorn and we will be using Brilliance on her. We have used a lot of PB Maine bulls in the past on heifers. Specifically, Simplicity from Brauns. He worked very well but we felt we didnt get quite enough punch out of them as yearlings.

    Hot Commodity/ Commotion Shorthorn bulls

CSF Evolution is pretty popular. Funny enough, we'd like to raise a HC son but have been very heifer heavy with him. I feel he does need to be used on a special cow to produce a son better than he is.

Stacking pedigrees to produce a Herd of Shorthorn specializing in show heifers?

We have had no issue getting Hot Commodity semen from the owners. Cornerstone Farms or Sullivan Farms. Hot Commodity is making easily the best Shorthorn cattle we have ever raised. I thought he needed to be used on a Trump stacked pedigree, but he doesn't. Just put him on a cow with a little...

Stacking pedigrees to produce a Herd of Shorthorn specializing in show heifers?

Best bang for your buck would be to flush 2 or 3 of the best cows you can get a hold of to Red Knight and then do those to Hot Commodity or Red Reward and then do the reverse. Those 3 bulls have reverse sorted and produced the highest number of good embryos for us in the last 3 years.

    Denver Bulls

In my opinion, 1OAK was by far the most balanced "clubby" bull out there. Reminds me of Getcha Some with maybe a little more size. It helps that he has full sibs winning coast to coast right now so he's not a fluke. Wade brought the heat in general this year. Couldn't stand Redneck or Dabo...
