We used Saskvalley Yesterday 116Y on some yearling heifers as a yearling the year before we sold him.  We are very happy with the results.  His calves were born easily and were very lively at birth.  They are very thick and deep calves.  We will most likely have some sons in the bull sale next...

If you truly feel that you can't find a group of pure shorthorn heifers that look that good then I suspect that you are not looking in the right places.  Look for them in herds that raise shorthorns for the purpose of raising beef cattle, not show cattle, and you will find them.

In my genetics class in university I was taught that the shorthorn coat color was due to co dominance, not incomplete dominance.  If you want someone ( or something ) smarter than me to explain it look up "punnett square" on Wikepedia and click on 'dominant' in the 'monohybrid cross' section. I think that 12Y would probably be around a frame score 6.5. I don't know if you were asking about the orangey color in general or the color of the 3Y bull in the pictures.  I don't know about "oranging" in general, but the color in the picture of 3Y is from the sun.  The sun was very bright...

Your right.  I usually take along a fly swatter when I take pictures but I forgot this time.  My bad.

The reason that I did not get a picture of the roan bull's head is because the breeder of the roan bull did not properly train him to stand correctly when getting his picture taken.  ;)
