Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

Sizzler14: You stated in your post that the bottom photo is what you see shorthorn females looking like to often.  I don't mean any disrespect by this, but if you often see shorthorn females looking like this then maybe you are not looking in the right places.  Once again no disrespect intended...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

Excellent post.  I agree with everything you posted.  Especially this sentence. "We need to understand that Shorthorns don't have to chase the growth game to be relevant but must be who we should be, maternal" Thanks for posting.  (clapping) (clapping) (clapping)

    I officially call BS

Canadian Western Agribition had their first club calf sale this year.  The Western Producer (Western Canada's weekly agricultural newspaper) wrote an article about it.  Here is a quote. "Club calves are designed for shows and their appearance, not for their carcass qualities or other traits that...

    Saskvalley bull pictures

We rarely have time to get out and take pictures.  Only when we have to (bull sale catalogue) does it get done.  So here are a few bull pictures If you want to see more pictures including bulls from Bell M Farms and Muridale Shorthorns here is the link...

    2015 Shorthorn Bulls

I sounds like the bull has worked well for you.  Glad to here it.  We decided to flush the mother of 33X.  We are expecting 4 full siblings this spring and have quite a few eggs in the tank.

    Shorthorn Bull Semen Marketing

I can understand why a semen company would want a bull that "sells itself", but if you are a breeder that has a bull that "sells itself" why would you need a semen company?  I'm not saying that we are that breeder or that we have a bull like this but just in general, If you are that breeder and...

    shorthorn epds?

(clapping) (clapping) (clapping) (clapping) We are using 7 different shorthorn bulls on purebred cows this year and I don't have a clue what their EPD's are.  The only time I have looked at the EPD's of one of our bulls is because someone made a comment to me about him, so I looked them up.

Opinions of 2 year old Shorthorn Bull

We used Saskvalley Yesterday 116Y on some yearling heifers as a yearling the year before we sold him.  We are very happy with the results.  His calves were born easily and were very lively at birth.  They are very thick and deep calves.  We will most likely have some sons in the bull sale next...

    Shorthorn X Red Angus heifers

If you truly feel that you can't find a group of pure shorthorn heifers that look that good then I suspect that you are not looking in the right places.  Look for them in herds that raise shorthorns for the purpose of raising beef cattle, not show cattle, and you will find them.

    Blue Roan?

In my genetics class in university I was taught that the shorthorn coat color was due to co dominance, not incomplete dominance.  If you want someone ( or something ) smarter than me to explain it look up "punnett square" on Wikepedia and click on 'dominant' in the 'monohybrid cross' section. If...

My son's bull, he thinks it is the best one ever pictured on SP

There you have it.  Proof that not all shorthorn breeders have problems with big birthweights!  ;)

My brother thought that we should get a picture of 65X from this year so he went out and got this one.

    just bull pictures, nothing controversial

I think that 12Y would probably be around a frame score 6.5. I don't know if you were asking about the orangey color in general or the color of the 3Y bull in the pictures.  I don't know about "oranging" in general, but the color in the picture of 3Y is from the sun.  The sun was very bright...

Your right.  I usually take along a fly swatter when I take pictures but I forgot this time.  My bad.
  19. turning grass into beef

    just bull pictures, nothing controversial

The reason that I did not get a picture of the roan bull's head is because the breeder of the roan bull did not properly train him to stand correctly when getting his picture taken.  ;)
