I am looking to buy a good Blue roan or a white or roan SH bull. Goal is to produce some good blue replacement heifers. Any age. Must be within reasonable distance of SW Iowa.

    Kroupas' Sweetheart Sale

Coon-footed is an old time horse expression. In horses it was a fault that meant that the horse was weak pasterned. It is the complete opposite of being too straight on the rear pasterns, as many of todays show cattle are. Even to the point of what we call popping the rear pasterns. I don't know...

    opinions on carnac females

I might just be crabby this morning, but I wonder why we would consider flushing a cow that can't raise a decent calf herself. And if we do flush such a cow , will we be considering the same problems when her daughters are old enough to breed? Oh well

Anybody seen any of the bulls going to Denver?

I looked at 3 bulls at Trausch that were Denver bound. Master of Puppets looked good, as did a Shorty bull called Tobasco ( I believe ). The Shorty was a son of JPJ, and out of a Vegas cow. Tested clean. Vwry moderate, but powerful.

    black baldy calves

I am not trying to steal this thread, but Dream Catcher is mentioned often. Have any of you that used him had or noticed any problem with soundness on the rear legs? Not trying to trash the bull, but I am a little concerned. What have you all seen ?

    opinions on my steer?

I'll take pasterns like that any day, as compared to many of the poppers that I have been seeing lately. I like him.

Fire Water for slick smokey steers

I find it very interesting that the old imported French bull Facco C09 was mentioned earlier. Back in the 70's, a man named Hanson from eastern Iowa , won the carcass show at the Iowa State fair, many times with steers from his son of Facco C09. Those steers were hard to beat in carcass shows...

    Stands Alone

Freddy, are we talking about the same bull ?  I was sure that Stands Alone was just a spring 09 calf. I don't doubt you, but was just wondering. Earl

    Stands Alone

I stopped at Nichols last Monday, and looked at what few bulls were there. I had seen Stands Alone last spring, and the only major problem I had with him was that I felt he might be too small. I am no longer concerned about that. He has developed into a good looking moderate framed bull. I liked...

Fire Water for slick smokey steers

When I raised charolais cattle back some years ago, the breed had some problems with what was called double muscling. Does this problem still exhist today? Possibly one of you modern day breeders could enlighten me.

Flying B Cut Above "Fat Butt"

I stopped at Nichols yesterday and looked at the bulls there. Fat Butt is a good looking bull. Big boned, sound and good moving. I guess if I were to change him, I might say that he as a little round in his muscle pattern. Overall, a darn nice Simmy bull. I did see 2 bulls there that I liked...

    dog question

My daughter in law's dog recently began to stumble and act disoriented. Her vet said that it was most likely a mild stroke. She is improving.

    Mating suggestions.

I like the idea of Ali. I would also consider an Ali son. Has anyone tried Mercedes Benz ? Also like the looks of Lautner's Lotta Body, a bull that no one seems to know much about. JMO

Bulls that sired the "meanest" calves

I have heard in the past couple of weeks that the Eyes on the Money cattle were a major problem. Anyone else heard this?

    Best Heat Wave Clone?

This thought keeps running through my mind about the clones. I have seen most of them at Hawkeye at one time or another. I also understand thet they are all the same genetically, but can someone tell me why some appear to be so much sounder than others? Some are just flat cripples, while some...

Spin off- Most athletic and nasty dipsosition bulls

I saw mention  that no  pure Simmys made the list. Back in the day, a fullblood simmy bull called Lacombe Achillies could sire some real bad ones. They were good looking, and very good producers, but were a handfull to handle. And then there was Ildeno.WOW

    Indian Outlaw Bull

I stopped at Phil's a couple of weeks ago. He had a pen of thin bulls, mostly yearlings, and just back from pasture breeding. JMO, but I liked Indian Outlaw the best of the ones I saw. Looked like he handled the breeding season well. Looked sound. A little better frame than some of the others...
