Here is our Manchild heifer born 2-14-08. I posted pics of her at 1 month old also. She is by Manchild out of a Meyer cow. We just rough clipped her yesterday. All of our Manchilds have so much hair, it's crazy. I didn't have time to crop or shop the halter out. (maybe Zach can do it for...

    sunday devotionals...please share yours...

I am the youth pastor at our church. Yesterday, our lesson was on "your mouth". Trash talking, foul language, put-downs, etc... God doesn't take very lightly this kind of stuff. Proverbs tells us that what comes out of our mouths today, will return someday with a payback.  A quote I always...

    Time for Flies

I used Avenger fly tags for the first time this year. They are working great. My cows have less flies than ever before. You have to put one in each ear. Calves get just one tag. Used every other tag in the past, with no results. Avenger just came out last year.

    Golden Child/Almost Famous

I have no experience with Golden Child personally. Have seen some good ones and some structurally inadequate ones. I have 6 Almost Famous calves born around Feb 14. Had no birth problems and all are very consistant. I just sold one of the heifers that is a really good one. Famous does work...

    water and more water

Here in Oklahoma, we have had normal rainfall UNTIL today. We have a major storm that has been raging since last night. No bad weather, just lots of rain and hail. Hate to even say this after reading the previous posts. Seems like it is heading toward all of you that don't need it.  :( We have...

    Everybodies current favorite song

    Kentucky Derby

The biggest story was the syndicate formed before the Preakness! The owners worked up the deal with Three Chimneys. The deal was $50,000,000. So, regardless what happens in the Belmont, Big Brown will be retired to stud after the race. I have always hated that aspect of racing...we never get to...

    Pink Eye

We haven't had pink eye in years. I do think the right mineral program will definately help. There is a spray that we used that worked great. Gentocin Spray works super if you have the cow treated regularly. you can find it easily. Just do a web search and you will have alot of options. Along...

    Re-using CIDRS?

Bawndoh, Your theory looks good on paper. But, To keep from spreading any disease on that CIDR, you must pull it...put it in a totally seperate bag...wash it seperate...and store it seperate. It's a great idea for control. but here is my main problem with it...I am much to lazy to take all the...

    Re-using CIDRS?

Justintime, I partner with some ET cattle. We use my recips. Our conception was a whopping 20% this spring. Needless to say, we tossed that vet. The new vet was much more prescise with everything. He made us put CIDRs in immed following the embryo. Said the same thing about better conception...

    Re-using CIDRS?

We have always only used CIDR's twice. Cleaned as everyone has said above. I have had pretty good luck with the once used ones. But I do agree with DL, I will probably  start using only once. For the time and money we spend getting our precious hussies bred, we shouldn't go cheap on the extra...
