The difference from the Showtec to the Purina is one is a fixed formula and one is not. It's a less cost base. That would be the Purina. I don't think I would be as concerned on the cattle feed but I will not use less cost feed mintrates in the show pig feed. It's inconsistent.
That's a great looking bull! I usually lean in on the a few "numbers" like BW, MM, and like to see an average WW and YW. I let the bull do the rest phenotypically. I rely a lot on physical make up. It's always a plus to have all the numbers be average or above. It all depends on what you want...
He should be eating at least 20#'s of a good grower ration a day and he needs to be eating more like 25-30#'s a day. He needs to gain 3#'s a day to get to you target weight and 6#'s grain and hay won't do it. As far as butt, you've probably missed out on some lean muscle growth with the lack of...
There will be approximately 80 hogs good for county and state fairs. We will have Berks, Durocs, Polands, Herefords, Yorks, Hamps, Tams, Chesters, Spots, and crossbreds. PM me for more info.
Love the broodiness and natural stoutness she brings to the table. I'd love to change her tail postion but she just screams cow and a big broody one at that. I'll say it again if you're not afraid of Dream On genetics I would use WAGR Driver. I am not sure how he is on calving ease but I don't...
We've had 60# Bismarcks and 100#+ Bismarcks out of Angus cows. I wouldn't use him on heifers. We have had several 878 and still do.They come easy and they have been real good cows for us. We haven't been able to click with them for a show quality type calf yet but they've been great cows. I like...
Joy, once a week is enough unless you need to do it more. Twice is plenty. If the calves are kept clean then there's no need to do more. Rinsing and conditioning daily is all you need.
I would probably get her pelvic measured. She appears too straight for "me" but you've gotta love the power and depth of body she posses. I would breed her to a high percentage calving ease bull and nothing else.
I think they're both good products. We've always used Showbloom but switched to Vita Ferm Sure Champ this season. If any major difference it's the price and protein content. The Showbloom is about $15 a bag more.
We've had real good luck with athletes foot spray. We also make it a point to hose the barn down with bleach water every year. Since we've started doing that we haven't had ringworm!
I would stick with the Umbarger feed. IMO it is the better feed of the two. You might try the show ready depending on the fleshing ability they posses. The only supplement I would recommend is the vita ferm Sure Champ. We add cottonseed hulls, beet pulp, corn cob, etc depending on the particular...
Low protein finisher feed would be a good place to start. I would stay away from a high fiber diet if you're trying to stop or slow the frame growth. Use a 10.5-11% finisher feed.
