    Advice on Mastitis

We have a cow that has developed a severe case of mastitis post weaning.  She has an entire rear quarter that is black and looks like it is detaching or getting ready to open.  I am sure the cow will not be worth keeping.  However, she is currently about 5 months pregnant. Would it be worth our...

    swayed back steer

Ditto.  It will help.  Some say it is old school, but we tie ours on two stacked pallets with a piece of sturdy wood secured over all the slats with a piece of rubber floor mat over that.  Works great and they actually enjoy standing like that.  We gradually work up to about two hours a day.

what to breed my heifers too...

Ditto.  Not even sure why I am going to say anything, but here goes... I have said it before a million times on here we love our Tiny Tim's.  He works very well on our cattle and he is definitely one that I wouldn't overlook.  He may not work as well on these females that don't have any growth...

Low birth weight bulls for club calf heifer???

We have clubby bred females and the absolute smallest calves we have ever had were out of Tiny Tim.  They are super consistant and have some look.  We have bred to a LBW Angus bull and our calves weren't as small or as good.  We swear by Tiny Tim.  One of our Tiny Tim's out of a first calf...

    SAK Shelby 2Y

What can anyone tell me about this bull, SAK Shelby 2Y.  He was on display at NWSS and I haven't seen, or heard anything about him since.  All I know is what little information I could google.

    prairie dogs??

Fumitoxin.  You do need a restricted use pesticide license to buy it, but it works.  Put a tablet down their hole, dump water down the hole and shovel the hole shut fast.  Do all visible holes leave it for a few days and go back and do it over until they are all gone.

How do you make your AI bull choices?

BTW Leanbeef I have always loved the cattle in your profile picture.  Ok, so we are so much smaller scale than most of the people on here, but I still feel like selection is important wether you have ten cattle or a thousand.  In the beginning we always looked at pedigree and numbers more than...

    FEED ADDITIVE

ADM/Moormans has a product called Fire Extinguisher.  They make a ruminant version and a non ruminant version.  We used it on pigs earlier this year and it took about a week before we were able to see any change. ...

What do I tell my Little girl

We just went through the same thing about a week ago.  It wasn't easy, but I think honesty is the best thing.  Of course keep it kid friendly and maybe don't elaborate too much, but let your child know the truth and explain it in terms of she/he is helping feed the world and maybe if your child...

    Show Ring appearance

Well yes a picture would be nice, but there are a couple things you can try that may or may not work.  When you set him up make sure he is not spread out to far...that might help.  Also, when you do have him set up if he tends to get slouchy rake your stick on his belly a little harder than you...

    Calving

I believe it is; if you feed at 3pm they will calve in the morning.  We feed around 5pm and seem to have most of our babies in the evening.  My husband swears that this also worked on their ewes.

I don't understand why; Can someone please explain ? !

Lindsey, try not to be discouraged by what you see going on around you whether you think it is right or wrong.  Enjoy what you are doing and put in the hard work and one day if luck is in your corner and you have made the right decisions when it comes to the care of your animal it will pay off. ...

    Filler ?

I try my very hardest not to make negative comments on SP, but wasn't their a post on here a year or so ago about a cow that was pumped with a carbonated beverage and died from suffocation.?  I would be reluctant to suggest that to anyone.  Lets try, as people who raise and love cattle and the...

    I'm Confused

I agree and I am a woman who sometimes likes to see all that junk.  It has gotten to be a bit much and I don't frequent the sight as I used to.  However, I think the thing that has turned me off the most about that situation is the fact that the young men that they sent to our farm to look at...
