Personally, I don't care if the semen is $20 or $200, odds are, I am probably not going to buy semen on an unproven bull.  I would much rather wait until the next year, see some calves and then decide.  For me, the price of semen is so miniscule in comparison to the cost of raising a show calf...

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Our entire pen of replacement heifers usually gets it over then winter.  They get over it, and are perfectly fine, just takes a bit for the hair to grow back in.
